Established in 1860, the Herald is an independent weekly newspaper covering a large area of East Cumbria, including the towns of Penrith, Appleby, Kirkby Stephen, Keswick and Alston.
The circulation, certified by the Audit Bureau of Circulation, is currently 19,703 copies sold on average every Saturday (ABC July-December, 1999). This includes over 1,100 copies mailed out to subscribers.
Research shows that more people read the Herald in its main circulation area than all the national dailies put together. (Osborne Market Intelligence, 1998).
The Herald is composed entirely 'on screen' in QuarkXPress on AppleMac Power PCs.
Our high circulation makes us an effective means of leaflet distribution.
Copies of Heirloom and historic pictures published in the Herald are often available.
