The Gyrus Olympic Gymnastics Club was founded in March 1968 as an after school club, after 5 years the club became independent of the school in 1973.

The club operates from a non purpose built gymnasium  in Witham, Essex.

The club coaches boys and girls Pre-School Gymnastics and General Gymnastics for recreational level gymnasts, these gymnasts represent seventy five percent of the members.  Women's and Men's Artistic Gymnastics is also coached at various competitive levels.

For many years Gyrus operated adult classes in Teamgym Gymnastics, winning British Championship and successfully qualifying for 2 successive European Championships in 1996 and 1998.

There are currently nearly 140 members.  The club is a member of the British Gymnastics Association, the Eastern Counties Gymnastics Association and the Essex Amateur Gymnastics Association. 

We have nine qualified coaches and six trainee coaches, all of whom give their time voluntarily., probably one of the very few clubs to still operate on a completely voluntary basis.

The club also has one International Brevet and one Regional Judge qualified in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics.  Gyrus also has one of only five Internationally qualified Brevet Judges in Teamgym Gymnastics in Great Britain at the present time. 

Gyrus has had representation on the committee within the Essex Amateur Gymnastics Association for 34 years, playing an integral part in forming the first Essex Committee from initial meeting off 5 clubs.
