WHICH PLACES MATTER?

Prison - Small open prison on the outskirts of Leagrave/Dunstable

Airport - On the edge of the town lying between Putteridge and Crawley.

Railway Station/Bus Station - In the south end of High Town

Leagrave Train station - In the middle of Leagrave, considered inconsequential,

Railway freight yard - part of the main station.

Luton University - In the town centre

Luton Sixth Form College and Barnfield College - Both lie in Icknield, the former on Old Bedford Road, the latter on New Bedford

Local Government - MPs are Labour, as is the elected borough council. The town hall is in the town centre, as well as all the other government offices.

Herald and Post Newspaper - Next to Eddies Bar

Luton News Newspaper - Next to Saddlers

Luton and Dunstable Hospital - Lies on the border of Leagrave and Dunstable, it is to near to Dunstable for anyone to feel really comfortable

Main Police Station - In the town centre on the ring road

Leagrave Police Station - this is situated to the south of Leagrave, and usually takes care of the Marsh Farm area.

The Strathmore Hotel - in the town centre between the Arndale and the Library

Wardown Park - Between Biscot and the Town Centre, there is a large lake in the centre and it lies between New and Old Bedford Road, at the south end are retirement flats and to the very north a county cricket ground and a large sports ground with amphitheater style seating around it, to the north of the lake is a Large Victorian Mansion house, which is nowadays used as a Museum. Declared Elysium.

The Moor - About the size of two football pitches, it is just north of the town centre, usually has gangs of Asians hanging around on it, maybe able to get some drugs here,

Stopsley Park - A nice quiet area of grassland in the middle of Stopsley. kept that way by Vaughan.

Marsh Farm Park - By day a nice area of grassland next to the motorway, of late has been nicely relandscaped, by night full of "youth" and drug dealers.

Luton Town Football Stadium - Lies to the west of Bury Park (East Dallow). also because of the Asian community it can be a bit of a bad area, except on match days when the police come out in strength.

The Zone - The towns most popular club, not because it is good but because they let anyone in, so it is often full of under-18's. It is situated on Gordon Street in the town centre, it can also be a little bit rough, music is strictly of the dance-chart variety.

The Ritz - Dunstable's only club, it does have a rock/goth night on a Thursday, but other than that is very like the Zone, only less well kept.

Mirage/Switch - The main club is general rock all of the time, although upstairs there is a smaller sub-venue known as Switch which is 100% goth. This is the most common vampire hangout, and is almost considered Elysium. It is on Mill street, just opposite Station Road.

Night Everlasting - Little is known about this club, it has just opened, it is opposite the University above a row of shops in what used to be Lazer Quest. Black Metal music mainly

Chicagos - Just down Park Street, a little way past the University, it mainly plays 70's and 80's music.

The Attic - Not really a club, it is set in 33 The Arts Centre down Guildford Street, it open every Friday night from early evening until early morning, it hosts a lot of local rock bands and plays the heaviest music around. On other nights there may be small art exhibitions or Jazz nights and the like.

The Artesium - Just off of Guildford Street by the Bus Station, this has been developed by the Council over the last year.

Legends - On John Street just behind the Arndale Centre, a fairly middle of the road club that trys to cater to everyone and fails, it falls somewhere between the Zone and Mirage.

DV8 - Guildford Street, various music, depends on the night, mainly alternative, six months old

The Dungeon - Formerly a metal/goth club, set in what used to be a pub on Upper Wellington Street, it was recently forced to close when the council revoked it's license.

Clowns and Jesters - Recently opened in the new cinema complex, it is opposite Inkerman Street, it is a more upmarket mainstream kind of place. It is more of a pub known as Clowns during the day, but at 10pm it becomes Jesters, the nightclub proper.


Pubs - The main town centre pubs

Fedora and Firkin - Chapel Street - a real ale/metal pub, usually full of metallers and goths, sometimes has bands on, a typical firkin feel to the decor.

Saddlers - George Street, opposite the new cinema complex - quite open and airy, it tries to be trendy, but isn't very popular, seating is all sofas and comfy chairs.

The Bridge Tavern - Bridge Street, behind the library - A rougher pub, usually full of workman and metallers/goths.

The Heights - Between the crown court and Night Everlasting - A very trendy and popular place, in the evening DJ's with really loud chart music.

Brooks - Opposite the Fedora - An American style sports bar.

The Newt and Cucumber - Entrances on Wellington Street and King Street - See The Heights.

The White House - Next to Clowns and Jesters in the cinema complex, opposite Saddlers - Real ale, large and airy, a combination between a traditional pub and a nice cosy common room, very new and well kept, never any music at all.

Eddies Bar - St. Marys Road, opposite the end of Guildford Street - Irish pub, can be a little rough if you're not careful, usually has Irish folk rock bands playing at weekends.

Mr. Bumbles - Between the Library and the Arndale Centre - Very rough, full of old drunks that have been kicked out of everywhere else, in a disgusting state, even the drinks come in plastic cups.

The Wheelwrights - Guildford Street, between 33 and the Artesium - A nice quiet real ale type of place.

The Two Brewers - Dumfries Street - A real ale pub, a community spirit amongst the drinkers here, if you can gain their trust then anything that needs doing can get done by someone from here.

Sundon Park Industrial - Several older factories are in this area. There are several new estates that have been set up and that have done quite well. This has encouraged a rejuvenation of the older factories.

Vauxhall - At the south end of South

South - Around the same area as Vauxhall, several new industrial estates

Dallow - several industrial estates, were on a downward spiral until recently when they have

been given a facelift of sorts. Livestock market - Lies to the south of the town centre, there is an all night cafe here.

Salvation Army Shelter - There are limited beds here for the homeless, and they will provide a meal in the evening for the current residents, it is on Alma Street.

Homeless Relief Hostel - This is on Castle Street and is a more permanent version of the above.

Connely Estates - This company has it's offices on Alma Street/George Street. A real estate co.

Luton Fire Station - About half a mile north of the town centre

Stopsley Fire Station - In the middle of Stopsley

The Luton Hospice - To the north of the town, actually out of town

Morgue - Next to the Police Station on the Ring Road

Arndale Centre - Main shopping centre and stays open until 10pm Monday-Friday

Luton Central Library - Main Elysium - Ground floor is main entrance and Childrens Library. First and Second Floor are the main Library and reference and music sections. Third floor is St George's Theatre, which has productions or showing almost every night. There is also a bar and a conference chamber, which also sometimes doubles as an art gallery.

Luton Cinema - Now that the new Galaxy has opened this is on the decline

The Galaxy - Comprised of The White House Pub, Clowns and Jesters nightclub, three restaurants, a bingo hall, ten pin bowling, and eleven cinema screens.
