THANKS, BOB HOLNESS...
Now this is quite a rare result (at least for me!)... a typed letter signed from this TV presenter.
(Don't forget, Bob Holness was the very first James Bond ever, in the very first professional production of Ian Flemings character. Admittedly, it was on Radio, but this is the type of fact that pops up in Trivial Pursuit and other General Knowledge quizzes!).
I was delighted to receive this item, because it's obviously personalised to me and shows without a doubt, that Bob Holness read and responded to my original letter. It also goes to show that he's certainly one nice fella, irrespective of his celebrity status.
The full transcript of the letter (which I'll hopefully scan and add here at a later date) is as follows:
"Dear David,
You may have only just started collecting autographs - but I'm sure you'll go far!!
A very polite (and legible!) letter, a self-addressed envelope with stamp, and a
spare piece of card "just in case". You have no idea what a rarity all this is.As you can see, it worked and your request has been granted.
I wish you all the best with your future collecting.
Kindest regards.
Yours sincerely,
BOB HOLNESS"
'Reading between the lines', this letter also acts as a kick up the backside for collectors who post out scruffy, rude letters and don't include return postage etc. It's really disappointing to think of any collectors not including SAEs (I certainly know a few that don't). Come on people, if we're to encourage celebrities to send out autographed pictures, the very least we can do is provide return postage and write kind, polite letters!!
