Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders have been my favourite team since I started watching them during the strike-hit season of 1982 (in Britain, the year that Channel 4 started). My following of them was paid back pretty quickly with them winning Superbowl XVIII on that Silver and Black Sunday of 22 January 1984 (my 13th birthday!).

Since then it has been a bit of a labour of love and you couldn't call a Raider fan a glory hunter.

I think it was their unpopular image that appealed most. The hardest hitting renegade crew with Darth Vader as a mascot! Having Marcus Allen and then Bo Jackson as running backs to watch in a formative time were enough reason to be a supporter for life.

When you learn the history - such games as the Heidi Game, the Immaculate Reception, the Sea of Hands, the Holy Roller, and George Blanda's Miracle Season you know you're onto something great.

However some astute trades such as Rich Gannon, The ever reliables like Tim Brown and a new winning spirit brought about by coach John Gruden might appear to be taking us to the Superbowl again!

The Vertical Game - A fan's site delighting in the rich pageantry of Raiderness. Key selling point is a press cuttings section from the Bay Area Press
