POELKAPELLE BRITISH CEMETERY

(CWGC Ref 5/1)

This cemetery was created after the Armistice with the concentration of graves from the surrounding battlefields. Most of the dead will be from the Third Battle of Ypres. Of the graves here 6,231 or 90% are unnamed.

It contains the grave of the youngest soldier to die on the Salient, that of Private John Condon, 6322, 2nd Royal Irish Regiment, who died on 24th May 1915, aged just 14.
