Arthur Hambleton
Founder of Mellor FC in 1923. Arthur, originally from Butterton near Leek, was a local farmer, having moved to Mellor in 1918. He served as secretary and chairman of Mellor for 25years and was made a Life Member. He died aged 71.
Si Dalby
Came to the club as first team manager from Poynton in the summer of 2003 and secured promotion to the Premier Division of the Lancashire & Cheshire League in his first season. He also led Mellor to the club's second consecutive appearance in the Stockport Senior Cup Final. Mellor lost 1-3 to Hazel Grove. The following year, 2004-05, he won the Stockport Senior Cup for the first time in Mellor's history, beating Spurley Hey 2-0. In his third season in charge he led Mellor to the runners-up position in the Premiership of the Lancashire & Cheshire League, the club's highest ever league placing. Pressure of work and the need to watch the footballing development of his sons Joe and Barry led him to stand down before the 2006-07 season.
John Bellis
Joined Mellor as a player in the late Seventies and has since held almost every position on the club committee. He is currently deputy chairman and First Team assistant manager.
Dave Garnett
Played for Mellor in the Seventies and then managed in the Eighties and Nineties. A talented musician who toured local pubs with a one man show. Last heard of living in Scotland.
Stuart Lindsay
Mellor's first team manager in one of the club's most historic periods. He led the side to two "doubles", winning Division 3 and the Rhodes Cup in 1985-86 and Division 2 and the Rhodes Cup the following year. Formerly a successful player.
Ryan Yates
Won the club's first silverware for 13 years when his third team won Division E in 2005. The previous year he managed the fourth team to the Hellawell Shield Final, where they lost to Salford Victoria.
George Dearsley
Joined the club in 1978 as a player and has been chairman from the early Eighties until the present day. Played in the First Team, was twice Second Team Player of the Year and led the Third Team to a league title as player manager.
Steve Hannan
Supremely gifted midfielder who played for Mellor in the Eighties and Nineties. Great passer of the ball and scored crucial goals too, often from long range.
Tony Atkin
Former player, later a manager in the Seventies and also club coach. He ran tough fitness sessions at Marple Ridge gym and sports hall. Later moved to the Lake District where he ran a B&B.
Dave Heywood
Nicknamed Diddy for his diminutive stature, he led the second team to a Wray Cup Final win in 1991-92. A brave, tough-tackling full-back, he later also managed the first team.
Wayne Stanley
Legendary third team striker, he once scored five goals in a game only to be sent off the following week and banned for the rest of the season. Never short of a second hand TV or video to sell you...without the remote control of course.
Phil Jarvis
Arguably the best goalkeeper to represent Mellor in the last quarter century, maybe ever. He played for the Lancashire & Cheshire League team in 1986. He helped Mellor to two "doubles" and in 1986-87 kept 16 clean sheets in 33 matches.
Roy Purlan
Excellent striker whose goals helped Mellor to cup and league glory in the mid Eighties. He scored the only goal in the Rhodes Cup final success of 1987 against New Mills. Now runs a guesthouse in the West Country.
Nigel Redfearn
Prolific goalscorer for the First and Second Teams in the Eighties and Nineties. Also a nifty cricketer. Lives near the Hunters pub in Chisworth. Or should that be "in" the Hunters.
Trevor Oxley
Loyal clubman and courageous third team left back, who won a Division E champions medal in 1992...but would never make the cover of a lads' style magazine.
Dave Yarwood
Former player and later first team manager in the Eighties and Nineties. As a full-back he possessed one of the hardest shots ever seen on a pitch. Goalkeepers would dive in the wrong direction when he took penalties. As a manager he brought some of the most gifted players ever to pull on a Mellor shirt. Some even stayed.
