Patrick Boyle
Joined Mellor in January 2008. Made his league debut as a left-sided
midfield player for the Fourths away at Old Ashtonians in January 2008.
Converted to striker later in the season and terrorised defences with
his pace. Scored his first goal for the club for the Fourths at Irlam
Steel in January 2008. Broke an ankle in June 2008 after a bike accident.
|
 |
Carl Brindley
Attacking midfielder or striker who returned to the club in September
2005 and established himself in the Second Team. In 2007-08 he broke into
the First Team. Scored an amazing last minute goal for the Seconds in
May 2008 to beat Division A Champions South Manchester 3-2.
|

Played a few games for the Thirds in 2005-06 but made his First Team
debut in the opening game of the 2006-07 season in a 2-1 home win against

15 yards. DoB 20.3.80
|
 |
Matt Bass
Joined in 2007-08 season and established himself as a Second Team
striker.
|
 |
Alex Barber.
Quality keeper who recovered from a nightmare debut in the Second
Team in September 2001 when he conceded seven to show his safe handling
and shot-stopping qualities. He has played for the First Team in
spells in 2002-03 and again towards the end of 2003-04 season but
played mostly for the Seconds in 2004-05. In 2005-06 he lost his place
to Marc Green but has continued to produce excellent displays for the
Third Team. He excels at one-on-ones but sometimes has the odd lapse of
concentration if he has little to do. So laid back he makes Barthez look
nervy. He's also a gifted cricketer, making his name as a fast bowler.
Won the Second Team's Players' Player of the Year Award in 2002-03. Nickname:
Alex. DoB 10.9.84
|
 |
Martin Banks

He has been a regular in the third team but has had a couple of impressive
appearances in the second team. Having shone in training at the start
of the 2008-09 season he made his First Team debut as a substitute away
at Hooley Bridge in a 1-0 win. Good pace and vision he's bound to progress
with experience. Nickname: Barlow. DoB 1.10.85

 |
Steve Beatty
Has really found form early in the 2007-2008 season (his second season
with the club). ÒWork HorseÓ winger who ticks all the boxes, pace, touch,
tackling..... etc. Renowned for his terrible choice of football boots
he is rumoured to be looking into Nike's new ÒPinkÓ powerplay boots!!!
Nickname Beatty. DoB 4.1.87
|
 |
Kyle Bell
Joined Mellor in 2006 as part of the u-17s set up. Under 17s Team
Joint Leading Scorer in 2006-07. DoB 19.3.90
|
 |
Ben Beer
Commanding and stylish centre-back who joined the club from Cherry
Tree in December 2003, bringing confidence and stability to the first
team's defence. Broke his ankle playing for his Sunday side in February
2004. Spent the summer of 2004 coaching football in the USA and returned
there in the winter of 2005. Came back to the UK and re-signed for Mellor
in January 2007. DoB 28.10.80
|
 |
John Bellis.
A club stalwart, without whom Mellor would not function. Currently
helps to run the first team but has been known to don his boots occasionally
- the ones with the leather nail-in studs. In fact he came on as a sub
aged 66 in April 2005 away at Rochdalians when the score was 0-1 and went
off 35 minutes later with Mellor winning 2-1. He's also a nifty artist
(as he keeps telling the barmaid in the Rock Tavern) so if you want a
Monet of the future contact jbwatercolours@btopenworld.com. He was honoured
by Stockport Sports Council in 2006 as Soccer Saturday Personality of
the Year. Won the Philip Hambleton Trophy for his work for the club in
May 2008. Nickname: El Bel. DoB 15.11.38

|
 |
Chris Blackhurst
Unders 17s keeper who made his senior Mellor debut for the Fourth
Team in a 2-2 draw away at Old Ashtonians in October 2006. Later played
for Mellor Seconds. Excellent shot stopper.
|
 |
James Blackhurst
Under 17s left-back.
|
 |
Gary Brown
Rejoined Mellor in the summer of 2006 for his second spell with the
club. Seems to have bedded in as the Fourth Team's captain and centre-back,
scoring on his debut away at Aldermere in September 2006. A golf professional.
Fourth Team Player of the Year 2006-07.
|
 |
Terry Boon.
New to the club in the summer of 2003, he immediately impressed with
his fitness and terrier-like tackling. Plays right or left side midfield.
In 2003-04 he played mainly in the third team but staked a claim to move
up after an impressive appearance as a sub in the second team's 7-0 thrashing
of West Didsbury in April 2004. Started season 2004-05 in the first team
squad after an excellent pre-season. Scored a wonder goal away at Rochdalians
in April 2005. He was chosen in April 2006 to be a body double for Michael
Owen in a TV commercial. Nickname: Tez. DoB 2.7.83.
|
 |
Chris Boydell.
Beanpole midfielder with telescopic legs who broke into the first
team in 2000 but played mainly in the seconds in 2001-2002 before establishing
himself in the senior side in 2002-2003. Fierce shot and good in the air
but sometimes needs a ball of his own during a game. He also plays guitar
and paints. Is that one coat or two? One of the sponsored bike riders
in 2001 and 2002. Ali G fan, so keep it real. And don't put the cursor
on Chris's face! Went off with his two brothers to climb Mount Kilimanjaro
in February 2004. Don't ask me why. Nickname: Boydy or Vincent (after
Van Gogh because of his innate artistry). He has been dogged by injury
and aggravated a knee problem in the Thirds Whitehead Cup semi final in
April 2008. DoB 9.4.78
|
|
 |
Pete Boydell.
His languid style is deceptive, he has vision and can pass the ball
well but his appearances have been limited by injury. Claims he grew up
so fast in his childhood his frame couldn't take the strain. Must have
been that beanstalk seed Widow Twankey fed him. Another Mount Kilimanjaro
climber in February 2004. His party trick is immitating the mating call
of some exotic equatorial bird. I'm sure that impressed his lecturers
at Huddersfield University. A stalwart of Ryan Yates' blue and white army
(aka the fourth team) in 2003-04 where he proved to be a commanding centre-back.
Voted fourth team Players' Player of the Year 2003-04. Nickname: Boydy.
DoB 2.10.81

 |
Stephen Broodie
Speedy striker or wingman who joined the club in the summer of 2006
and quickly became part of the First Team set-up. Scored his first goal
for the club at home to Burnage in September 2006.
|
 |
Tom Bright
Claims never to have played organised football before joining Mellor
in the summer of 2005 but showed a natural talent as a striker. Scored
on his debut for the Fourth Team in a friendly against Old Stocs. Scored
on his league debut for the Fourths against Burnage Metro. And scored
on his Third Team debut against Lime Street. He has enjoyed appearances
for both the First and Second Teams too. Currently at Sheffield University.
A Manchester United fan. Nickname: Tom DoB: 13.9.88

Si Boydell.
Don't be fooled by this pose from Rodin's The Thinker, Si is a no
nonsense defender who tackles like a JCB. Spills blood for the cause....sometimes
his own. You wonder if he's drumming up business because he works for
the Blood Transfusion Service! Doesn't drive so cycles to work in Manchester
and back daily. He needs to be fit...because his route takes him through
Longsight. Spent 2001-2002 season in the thirds mainly at left back but
has also played in the Second Team, mainly at centre back and had an excellent
season in 2002-2003. Also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2004. In 2005 he
took over as manager of the Fourth Team and took them to the Hellawell
Shield Final. He'd probably look good in Mourinho's overcoat..but it could
be a bit hot playing at centre-back. Nickname: Boydy or Si. DoB 8.8.74
|
 |
Steve Brown
No nonsense defender or central midfielder, hence his club record
for conceding penalties. Takes care of most of the club's printing needs
as he owns his own business. See the entry under Jobs Forum on the Welcome
Page of the website. Won the Fourth Team Player of the Year Award in May
2008. Nickname: Browny. DoB 2.12.62
|
 |
Josh Bradley
Joined Mellor in the summer of 2005 and made his debut for the Fourth
Team at home to Burnage Metro. Made his Third Team debut against Lime
Street SC. He has also played for the Second Team, making his debut against
Whalley Range away. DoB 27.10.88
|
 |
Russ Brooks
Chunky midfielder or striker who can go past defenders and has a venomous
shot. Broke into the Second Team at the end of 2003-04 season and kept
his place in the new campaign. Has also appeared several times in the
First Team. Bagged two trophies at the annual presentation night in May
2005, the Manager's and the Players' Player of the Year for the Second
Team in 2004-05. Picked up a bad injury at the end of the 2004-05 season
which caused him to have a major operation early in 2006. Nickname: Russ.
DoB 5.8.85

 |
Mike Bradbury.
Second team regular in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003, he can play in any
position but is probably best in central midfield. He also played a vital
role in a couple of key first team matches in 2002-03 which led to the
side winning promotion. Quick, a good tackler who can move forward to
good effect. Amazingly for someone who lives in Greater Manchester he
supports Manchester United. Suffered a dislocated knee against Gatley
in September 2003. Returned in 2006-07 season to star with the Fourths.
Nickname: Mike. DoB 1.2.74.

|
Duncan Bray.
Fleet footed attacker - and Dean Gaffney look-alike - who needs to
study the offside rule more. He ran the Fifth Team in 2006-07 but stepped
up in season 2007-08 to be manager of the Thirds, leading them to promotion
and a Whitehead Cup semi final appearance. His previous career saw him
break into the second team in 2003-04 but he preferred playing in the
fourths or thirds with his mates. Scored the brace in a 2-1 win over Burnage
Metro that took the Fourths to the Hellawell Shield Cup Final. Won the
fourth team top goalscorer medal in May 2004 after netting 26 goals. Began
season 2004-05 with a hat-trick in three of the first four games and ended
up with 34 goals. Needless to say he was the Third Team's leading marksmen
in 2004-05. He suffered a bad leg injury away at Cheadle Hulme in 2005-06
and later took over as manager of the newly formed Fifth team. Did a wicked
Julian Clary impression at Mellor's dinner dance in May 2006. Nickname:
Dunc. DoB 4.9.81
