Phil Welsh
Keeper in the Tommy Lawrence mould. Formerly with Bedians, he donned
the gloves again after a 10 year sabbatical. Made his debut in a Fourth
Team friendly against Old Stocs and his league debut for the Third Team.
He's also a keen golfer. Joined the club's committee and among other things
organised a successful money-raising meat draw. Broke his tib and fib
just above the ankle mid way through 2005-06 season. Click on his face
to see the X-ray! Became joint Fourth Team manager in August 2006. Won
the Philip Hambleton Trophy in 2006-07 for his services to the club. Nickname:

Lee White
Played in the Fourths in season 2007-08, mostly as a flank player.
He can score goals as he showed with two against Staly FC in February
2008.

Adam Worrall
Joined the Fifths at the start of 2007-2008 season. A central defender
with bags of agility. Excellent tackler/ball winner and is the Fifth team's
Micah Richards, the all round athlete. Shouts erratically at himself to
pick his game up if he thinks he playing poorly, which is rarely the case.
Nickname Ð Wozza.

Chris Woodworth
Under 17s goalkeeper who joined the club at the start of 2006-07 season.
Made his First Team debut in July 2007 in a friendly against Glossop.

Charlie Vincent
Ball playing full-back in the Maldini mould but probably as quick
nowdays as Maldini's dad. Rarely beaten though and talks well, as befits
a Porsche-driving insurance salesman. Played mainly in the third team
in 2003-04 and in the fourths in 2004-05, being part of the squad which
reached the Hellawell Shield Final. A keen photographer as you will see
if you put the cursor on his picture. Also claims to do more than competent
Elvis Costello impressions. Scored a rare goal in a 5-0 thrashing of Aldermere
in September 2006. Nickname: Lombardo. DoB 1.7.59

Alex Wharton
Joined the club in his mid-30s, played with distinction for the First
and Second Teams and won the Player of the Year for the Seconds in 2003-2004
when the side was promoted. Appointed Second Team manager at the start
of the 2007-08 season and achieved the side's highest position for at
least 30 years. This is his first job in management at Mellor after being
the club's award winning secretary for a number of years until he relinquished
the full time job at the end of the 2006-07 season. He was named League
secretary of the year in May 2006. A back injury stalled his playing career.
He played in every position for the seconds except up front and including
in goal. His preferred positions were right, left or central midfield.
He played on after two nasty head wounds in a bruising encounter with
Old Trafford in December 2002. A talent scout would have signed him..for
a Hammer Horror movie. Organised the club's sponsored 60-mile bike ride
in 2000 and 2001. Cultured on and off the park. Scored the goal of the
season from 40 yards away at West Didsbury in April 2004. Nayim eat your

Neal Young
Joined the fifths at the start of the 2007-2008 season. Central defender
who does not give up.... The rock at the back and great ball winner. Deceiving
chap as always looks as though heÕs just rolled in from the boozer but
it never effects his ability. Nickname Ð Neal.

Luke Warburton
Joined Mellor for the start of the 2006-07 season. Made his league
debut as a sub for the Third team in a 2-0 defeat against Govan. Graduated
to the Second team. He's a tricky midfielder with good vision and a good
pass.

Dave Whelan
Under 17s midfielder. Made his Second Team debut at right back in
January 2007 in a 7-1 defeat away at Newton in the Wray Cup. He was named
Man of the Match for Mellor. DoB 24.8.90

Joe Whelan
Under 17s midfielder or full back. Tenacious tackler. Played his junior
football for Rose Hill Rovers, Marple Athletic and High Lane. DoB 8.2.90

Alex Wood
Under 17s striker, in fact the team's Joint Leading Scorer in 2006-07.
Hurt his back in 2007 when a fellow student jumped on him for a prank.
That put him out of football for the rest of the season.

Scott Waters
Joined Mellor during the 2007-08 season, initially as a defender but
is also an accomplished goalkeeper and reverted to that position in March
2008.

Danny Wilkson
Played junior football for Norbury Athletic, first as a defender and
later up front, until he was 15 then had a gap before joining Mellor in
2004-05 season. He's a striker who has regularly found the net for the
Fourths. In fact he scored in each of six consecutive games towards the
end of 2004-05 season. DoB 14.9.81

Ryan Yates
Combative midfielder who can also play up-front and score goals. Has
played in the first team but his form and fitness has suffered since he
discovered lager. Volunteered to run the newly formed fourth team in 2003-04.
He was inspirational, taking them on a 15-game unbeaten run all the way
to the final of the Hellawell Shield. Lifted the Philip Hambleton Trophy
in May 2004 for his sterling work with the fourth team, his help in building
the removable goalposts and also his general dedication to the club. He
took over as third team manager in 2004-05 and led the side to the Division
E Championship. A talented musician too. Nickname: Rhino. DoB 4.6.83

Jason Wilde
Under 17s central midfielder, he made his senior league debut against
Old Stocs for the Seconds in November 2006. Made his First team debut
(an excellent performance) in a friendly against Woodley Reserves away
in December 2006. In January 2007 he broke into the first team proper
for league and cup games. A powerhouse with a terrific shot.

Alex Young
Great athlete and was Mellor's version of Ruud Gullit until he shaved
all his hair off. Great ability to hold the ball under pressure and a
potential matchwinner. Has played for First, Seconds and Thirds in his
time but is now a first team fixture. DoB 27.7.80

Paul Wild
Plays centre-back for the Fourths. A rugged, no-nonsense defender
with a reasonable turn of pace.

Dave Wilkinson
First team full-back or midfielder who likes to attack. One of the
quickest players in the club, until he tried skiing on grass in February
2003 and broke his ankle. Nickname: Wilky or Wilko. DoB 19.2.82

Matty Wyatt
Matty Wyatt. Came to training in the summer of 2001 and quickly broke
into the first team in his first season in open age football. Plays as
a wing-back or wide midfield but likes to attack like a winger. Good first
touch and great turn of pace, he rarely wastes a ball. First Team Player
of the Year and Players' Player of the Year in 2002-03. Disappeared before
the start of the 2004-05 season and turned up playing for Old Stocs seconds.
Now back where he belongs. Broke a collarbone in pre-season 2006-07. Nickname
Matty. DoB 2.4.85
