Simon Dunnett is passionate about renewable energy! He set up Solutions Renewable Energy Ltd. after gaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering and masters degree in Energy Technology and after running his own successful building business for a number of years.
Simon's knowledge is immense but communicating his enthusiam through a website was a challenge. The environmental argument for installing renewable energy systems is unquestionable however the economic rationale was the real surprised.
Installing a solar hot water system, wood-burning stove or photovoltaic system (to generate electricity from the sun) often provides a far higher investment return than leaving your money in an ISA. There are all kinds of grants available from the government and you can actually end up selling back excess energy you generate into the grid.
Getting such a persuasive case across in a website was a lot of fun. We created a clean, warm, knowledgeble site that reflected what Solutions Renewable Energy was all about. Simon's focus was very much on the environmental issues but we wanted to make sure the economic arguments were equally represented. Take a look at www.solutions-renewable-energy.co.uk and see what you think. Also check out the renewable energy savings application we're working on in the 'Digital Communications' section of this site.

WhenUrent is a site commissioned by Jakuta Ltd. to connect good tennents to good landlords. Tennents can review their rented properties and the local area to give an indication of what it's like to live there. Landlords can advertise properties and find the 'best fit' tennents.
Because of the ever changing range of properties available it was important to create a simple but powerful content management system (to control the content in real time) and to set up various levels of security access to the site; tenents can add property reviews but can't access the 'Landlord' area of the site for example.
The site also features advertising real estate so letting agents, insurance companies and local tradesmen can feature on the site. A 'bidding' system was created so that these businesses can establish the going rate given seasonal demands and likely exposure..
At the moment the site is heavily focused on student accomodation in Kent but there are plans to expand to other student cities and then across the UK. The site will allow students, professional couples and families to find their ideal rental accommodation with all of the local amenities each group really needs.
And the great thing is, now that the site has been set up, all of the expansion can be handled internally by Jakuta staff.
