All University of Nothumbria students automatically become members of the students' union. It is run by students for the students and provides a wide range of facilities.
The Union is a must for social life, with discos, concerts, cafes, bars, clubs and societies. As well as having a ballroom and theatre, the Union has three bars, a travel agent, a book shop, a sandwich shop, a stationary shop, lounges and TV rooms.
The Northumbria Lounge is a pub and serves hot meals and snacks all day. Reds Bar, with a CD juke box, videos, pinball, pool tables and a built in disco system, has a very different atmosphere, becoming a club most nights of the week, offering varied styles of music. The continental cafe has a selection of sandwiches and pizzas.
My personal opinion of the students' union is that, to all the great points mentioned above there are some bad points too. For examlpe , Reds bar is not always open, which is a shame as I think the Northumbria lounge is the place to go if you what a quite pint and a meal, nothing much else really happens in there.
A typical student easily found in Reds!!
