WAVE WALL
MEADOWSIDE ST. PAULS' CHURCH
DUNDEE

Wave Wall to rear of Church

The wall is 30 meters long and 2 meters at its highest point. It is constructed to look like a dry stone dyke.

My second project after leaving college. The brief was to work in conjunction with local Landscape Architect (Brian Snell), to produce designs for a wall feature and set of railings for the Churchs' new extension and garden. The Church wanted to express to the wider community a sense of openness and welcome through the landscaping and introduction of artworks.

Shortly after undertaking the commission I travelled to Turkey on holiday and saw there some beautiful stone walls that inspired me to consider the whole wall as the artwork.

The Church is known locally as the Mariners Church, Dundee having a history of shipbuilding & whaling. This gave me the idea to base my designs on waves, which are very symbolic of life.

This iconography connected into the concept that Religion is a vehicle which people use to rationalise the human condition.
