The world of Beowulf represents a headache for both of the colonising nations, Britain and France. Normally close allies the tension between colonists over resources has lead to an increasing level of armed confrontations throughout the years. Originally a conflict between both sides forces and smugglers and pirates from the other it has escalated to a level where it is now on the verge of open war. France cannot afford to alienate the British, when she faces both the threat of the Kafers and confrontation with Germany on so many colony worlds. As a result the Colonial Administration has clamped down on the number of militia soldiers and restricted the activities of regular troops. However local authorities have used their own prerogatives to raise numerous reserve Gendarme units, which are paramilitary in nature if not in name. Rumours of mercenary units on planet are also commonplace. 101e Division Légère Blindée The 101e DLB is the main mobile defence force for Nouvelle Europe. It has just been equipped with hand-me-down AC-10's from Earth, which have greatly improved the divisions manoeuvre warfare capability. However it would be outmatched by the Alician Defence Force in a full conflict, which is a real area of concern for the colonial Governor.
1e Division Légère Aeromobile The 1e DLA is unit unique to Beowulf, and is essentially just a Airmobile demi-brigade. It acts as a rapid reaction force for any trouble within the Ramadenthian Archipelago. This unit is always manned by the most professional troops available, and is skilled at defusing situations without resorting to violence.
1e Demi-Brigade d' Infanterie de Marine The 1e DBIM was formed in Nouvelle Europe in the late 2270's when inter-communal violence flared on the island of L'Horizon. It was believed that local units on both sides were inflaming the situation so regular troops from British and French colonies were brought in. The 1e DBIM remains stationed on L'Horizon and maintains close links with its neighbouring Alician units, but can also be used for fire-brigade tasks when required.
207e Division d' Infanterie The division is the only true militia force in Nouvelle Europe, and is stationed and recruited from around the capital Devereux and the eastern most islands in the Ramadenthian Archipelago. It is not particularly well trained or equipped, and is not trusted by the French regular soldiers who believe many of its members have their own agendas.
Gendarmerie de Nouvelle Europe The Gendarmerie has raised a profusion of paramilitary units over the years and recently has reorganised these. As a result three types of paramilitary reserve Gendarmerie exist. Compagnie de Sécurité Général de la Réserve (CSGR), Compagnie d' Appui de la Réserve (CAR) and Compagnie de Soutain de la Réserve (CSR). CSGR are paramilitary support companies who also have riot training. CAR have a number of specialist sub-units and whose official raison d'être is providing disaster relief support to the CSGR. CSR are logistical and command unit, equipped with a range of communications systems and logistical vehicles. Cynics in Alicia point out the large number of military weapons also held by these Gendarme reservists and the 3:1:1 ratio in numbers which looks suspiciously like a battalion formation. The French colonists in turn point to the large and well equipped Alician military which exists on the other side of the Ramadenthian Sea. The number of reserve Gendarme companies is unconfirmed, but Alician defence analysts claim at least 18 battalions could be assembled in time of war. The world of Kimanjano is somewhat un-welcoming for its colonists from France and Azanian, but this wealthy colony has little in the way of strife or conflict and so needs little in the way of ground defence or internal security support for the Gendarmerie. However its strategic position has given it an increased importance and it has become the site of the French Local Strategic Reserve. The reserve is composed entirely of crack Foreign Legion or Marine combat units that can be dispatched to any trouble spot on the Arm. However it should be noted that these are not assault troops with the capacity to invade planetary systems but simply reinforcements. 212e Division d' Infanterie This unit is the reserve division for any situation that might arise on the French Arm. Most of this units will rotate with other battalions that are a part of colonial DAM. The division holds a range of equipment including wheeled and hover APC's to allow it the greatest flexibility both in training and deployment. As a rule only half of the division is on Kimanjano at any given time.
209e Division d' Infanterie This unit contains the defence units of the Kimanjano militia and the two Colonial battalions raised on-world. It rarely exercises as a complete division and its units are normally disdained as weekend warriors by the soldiers of the 212e DI.
9e Corps The Corps is a recently organised grouping brought together in 2295 to command the previously uncoordinated regular and militia units on BC in the face of the increasing German military build up on world. At the current time it controls very few Corps level assets, and is more of an administrative and doctrinal command based out of a subterranean bunker in Premiere. 21e Division de la Marche (Detached Armée de la Manouvre) The 21e DM was deployed on BCV-4 in response to the post War of German Reunification deployment of the Panzergrenadier Division 4 to the German continent. The division is due to be replaced by a further unit from the Armée de la Manouvre in a years time. The 21e DM has re-equipped with the AC-12.
101e Division Aeromobile The 101e DAM is the Corps rapid reaction formation, and is composed of several excellently trained units. One of whom, the I/REAI, has been specially organised to experiment with the use of integral infantry, transport and gunships within a battalion sized task force. It is currently being tested under fire on Aurore.
100e Division Légère Blindée Recently re-equipped with old AC-8 and Bessieres APC's the unit nevertheless retains its DLB title. It works closely with the 21e DI and provides one of the main planks of the colonies defence.
102e Division Légère Blindée This unit is still equipped with the wheeled ABR family of armoured vehicles, however it is intended that it will re-equip with surplus AC-8's in the near future as they become available. In the meantime the unit trains for armoured warfare within the cities of the French Continent. Parts of the unit however have been detached to fight on Aurore.
103e Division Légère Blindée The 103e DLB is a newly raised militia formation taking over 100e DLB's old ABR vehicles. It has only recently been deemed operationally effective. It is recruited from the three major cities and trains mostly at the Demi Brigade level.
206e Division d' Infanterie This division was the original colonial militia command, which as an adjunct to the Gendarmerie had a fairly sedentary existence until the increased tension on-world caused a threefold increase in the size of the Militia. The 206e DI is now a fully operational combat division, with an increasing scale of combat support and combat service support elements. The individual battalions usually exercise on their own except for three times yearly divisional concentrations. The unit is scattered throughout the French Continent and has no currently assigned operational zone. It is a light formation.
213e Division d' Infanterie This unit is organised and operates in the same manner as the 206e DI. It is still equipped with old, captured Manchurian weaponry.
The numbers of troops on Adlerhorst are restricted by the terms of the Treaty of Darwin that saw the deployment of Anglophone peacekeepers to the planet to halt the inter-colonial violence. However the troops that remain are of excellent quality, with the Militia units being almost full-time troops in terms of their training commitment. In addition the Gendarmerie has a large contingent of paramilitary reserve formations that most observers believe could act as passable infantry in times of tension. 210e Division d' Infanterie The 210e DI is an integrated formation including Marine, Colonial and Militia formations. It commonly operates in two Brigades, one of Marine-Colonial regulars and one of Militiamen. However as noted above the militia are of exceptionally high quality. The unit is equipped with the ABR series of vehicles.
The colony world of BCB is occupied entirely by the French and so there is little tension in the area. There are only three militia battalions recruited from the major towns and being little more than social organisations. Although the Gendarmerie has a number of reserve units these are usually only used for extra policing during the occasional public demonstration. However the pastoral state has proved excellent for the placement of a commando and patrol school, to which two battalions are normally assigned permanently and detachments from other units rotate through. Corps d' Aurore (14e Corps) The Corps d' Aurore is an ad-hoc body created to control the fighting in Aurore Français by all French and attached troops deployed. The Corps is also responsible for co-ordinating efforts with Tanstaafl to the south and rendering any help it can spare for the Ukrainian colony. It controls a large number of Corps level formations which are deployed where and when needed, carrying out the roles of DB and DAM formations in other Corps. The élite I/8e RPIMa is deployed only under the authorisation of the Corps Commander.
5e Division de la Marche (Detached Armée de la Manouvre) The 5e DM is based in the city of Lumière d' Aube and is responsible for it's defence and that of the area around it. The large numbers of Kafers to the west of the city and the good terrain for ACV vehicles means the Division sees lots of action, this mechanised force has a substantial advantage over the remaining Kafers. The unit is equipped with a variety of equipment, which sometimes complicates the maintenance situation. 2e REC and 15e GC operate as a combined arms battle-group but the other units operate independently. II/13e DBLE is a light infantry formation attached to increase the division's patrolling 'footprint'.
6e Division de la Marche (Detached Armée de Tirane) The 6e DM is based in the city of Aurore and is responsible for it's defence and that of the area around it. The Kafer threat to the city is fairly minor, with only small bands being present in the nearby forests. Consequently the division is primarily an infantry formation. III/5e REI and II/10e RIC are equipped with ACV-APCs and the other units are equipped with wheeled APCs.
208e Division d' Infanterie The 208e DI was the original militia unit on Aurore and is now based and mostly recruited from around Lumière d' Aube and has seen serious fighting. At the height of the fighting it was strongly reinforced by units from its newly organised sister division. Although the arrival of Metropolitan units has removed much of the pressure from the unit, the Division was largely responsible for the survival of the colony in the original fighting. Currently though its best soldiers and leaders have been stripped away to reinforce the regular units.
214e Division d' Infanterie The 214e DI is a militia formation based and recruited from the area around the city of Aurore. It is currently acting as a reserve for the 6e DM in repelling any Kafer incursions. It is using this time to try and reorganise and re-equip itself after the heavy fighting it has undertaken.
