November 16th saw the Annual Wear Area Battle take place at Washington Camera Club.
Only 7 Clubs took part this year as a result of Seaham and Stanley Clubs closing down. The Club's taking part were: Sunderland, Durham, Washington, Consett, Chester-le-Street and Stanhope. Each Club submitted 6 slides each, making a total of 42 entries. This year the Judge was the NCPF President, Dave Coates ARPS.,MPAGB.,EFIAP., who did a brilliant job on some superb images. After the Judging, Washington Members supplied one of their renowned buffets and the 85 people who attended were very well fed and watered.
The results were: 1st Place Sunderland P.A. with 167 points. 2nd Place Washington C.C. with 158 points. 3rd Place Durham P.S. with 148 points. The Medal, which is provided every year by Washington, for the Best Individual Slide was awarded to a slide entitled "Wreck" by Alan Brown of Sunderland P.A. which received 30/30.
As a Postscript, I would like to take this opportunity of speaking directly to all the Member Clubs of the Wear Area. It has been said to me by most of these Clubs that they are finding it more and more difficult to get enough Colour Slides to submit for this competition. So, the question I want you all to consider, is what format this Battle should be fought in.
There are TWO alternatives: All Digital Prints or Digitally projected images.
Can I ask all Wear Area Clubs to take these two alternatives back to their Committees to decide which one they would like to see introduced. When a decision has been made could you please 'phone Ken Henderson on 0191-4160164 and let me know and we will instigate this as soon as possible.
Thank you ..... Ken Henderson.APAGB.

WESTERN AREA BATTLE 2007
This took place at the Helena Thompson Museum, Workington, on the 17th November 2007. It was organised by Workington CC, judged by Libby Smith EFIAP, MPAGB and commenced at 6.00 pm.
It was preceded by a Presentation by Libby. She showed us a wide variety of pictures, and a display of Permajet papers. During the interval between the Presentation and the Competition we were able to inspect some of her prints more closely. Everybody enjoyed the delightful afternoon.
Libby pre-judged the Competition the previous evening, and gave a lucid and interesting commentary as one would expect from a PAGB Judge. She marked from 13 to 20, giving a few maximums. The prints had been photographed prior to the event and were projected for the audience while Libby was delivering her commentary. This added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening. The club scores are as follows.

The whole evening was attended by the NCPF President, which was much appreciated. Copious high quality refreshments were served during the interval between the two events. This completed a very well organised and enjoyable afternoon and evening.
