COMPETITION RULES

APPENDIX A - COMPETITION RULES (REVISED 2008)

GENERAL

1) Slides are to be mounted in glass standard mounts, correctly spotted, each slide to bear the member's number and title of the slide. Slides are to be submitted in an envelope with the member's NAME, NUMBER, THE TITLE and for the Seasonal Competition the CLASS (Club, Advanced) clearly stated.

2) All prints shall be mounted and no mount shall exceed 20" x 16". All prints must state on the back the members club number the title of the print.

3) For the Seasonal Competitions each member will elect each year the category under which they wish to enter i.e. Advanced or Club category. This nomination will be made with the first slide(s), print(s) and digital image(s) entered each year and will operate for the whole of that year's competitions (the member does not necessarily need to be in the same category for slides, prints and digital images).

4) Any slide, print or digital image that has previously been placed in a Competition will be ineligible for entry in that Competition in subsequent years.

5) Prize winning slides, prints or digital images may be held for various exhibitions including the Northern Federation, unless the member wishes otherwise.

6) All entries to be handed to the Competition Secretary not later than the dates stated.

COLOUR SLIDES (SEASONAL COMPETITION)

1) The subject matter for competitions will be decided at the Annual General Meeting.

2) Members may submit up to SIX slides during the season, a maximum of THREE slides in any competition.

3) The Competition Judge will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th places plus HC's in each section. Championship marks will be awarded on the basis of 7 pts for 1st through to 2 pts for HC plus 1 point for all other entries. In all sections i.e. Club and Advanced, the Photographer of the Year in each section will be decided on the total marks credited to the best THREE slides submitted by each member.

4) The Judge on the final competition night will select from the six winning entries of the season, i.e. Club and Advanced in the three competitions, the "Slide of the Year".

PRESIDENT'S TROPHY

1) Members may submit one entry of 3 digital projection images linked by a theme, to be judged as a set. The Judge to award 1st, 2nd & 3rd places.

2) The subject for the theme will be set by the Immediate Past President at each A.G.M.

THE ALLAN POTTS NATURE TROPHY COMPETITION

1) A competition for digital projection images depicting the "Natural World" i.e. Nature in its broadest context, including items such as rock structure, cloud formations, etc. The pictures should portray natural items not man made features.

2) An entry consists of 3 digital projection images to be judged as a set. Members may submit two entries. The set should either show diversity of subject matter or develop a single subject theme with all three pictures contributing information.

3) The judge to award 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

PRINT RULES (SEASONAL COMPETITION)

1) Members may submit up to 6 prints in each section (i.e. 6 colour and 6 monochrome) during the season, a maximum of 4 prints (per section) in any competition.

2) The Competition Judge will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th places plus HC's in each section. Championship marks will be awarded on the basis of 7 pts for 1st through to 2 pts for HC plus 1 point for all other entries.

3) The Photographer of the Year in each section (monochrome & colour) of each category (Advanced & Club) will be decided on the total marks credited to the best 3 prints submitted by each member.

4) The Judge on the final competition night will select from the eight winning entries of the season, i.e. Club and Advanced, Mono and Colour in the two competitions, the "Print of the Year".

MONOCHROME PRINTS

1) A monochrome print is one which consists of one colour only in addition to the colour of the print base.

2) Prints may be home or commercially processed, the choice of mounts must be entirely the work of the competitor. Processing of the negative or transparency may be done commercially.

COLOUR PRINTS

DIGITAL PROJECTION FILES, REQUIRED FORMAT

1) Pictures must be submitted as JPEG files not exceeding 450KB.

2) The Image Size should be no more than 768 pixels high x up to1024 pixels wide.

3) Image Files are to have a file title comprising the member's number and title of the picture separated by an underscore (i.e. 27_Tynemouth.jpg ).

4) Image Files may be handed in on a CD or transferred to a specified area on the club computer.

DIGITAL PROJECTION (SEASONAL COMPETITION)

1) Members may submit up to SIX images during the season, a maximum of THREE images in any competition.

2) The Competition Judge will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th places plus HC's in each section.
