Royal Deeside Journey

Perfect for visitors to Aberdeen City and Shire

We have introduced a new Journey, called The Royal Deeside Journey. This is a lovely trip which is centred around Aberdeen-shire and follows in the footsteps of the famous Queen Victoria. Ideal for entertaining corporate clients and families visiting the North East.

Setting off from Aberdeen, we follow in the footsteps of Queen Victoria, who was a key figure in this part of the world. We follow the famous River Dee and stop at Crathes Castle. This is a magnificent 16th Century castle with beautiful gardens.

Then we’ll drive on to the lovely town of Banchory and continue to follow the River Dee as the valley opens up in front of us. It is very scenic here. No wonder Queen Victoria settled here for her holidays in the 1800’s. We stop for lunch in the picturesque town of Ballater, where you also have the chance of visiting the Royal Train Station, now a museum. New for 2008, Queen Victoria’s original carriage is open to the public.

Later on we drive further to see Balmoral Castle (built by Queen Victoria in 1852); it is open from April through to 1st August or, we can visit the 5 star whisky distillery behind the castle known as Royal Lochnagar. Probably one of my favourite settings for a distillery.

Then on our homeward journey we can stop (time permitting) at the interesting Muir of Dinnet Nature Reserve. Here we can take a short walk to the Burn O’ Vat. This is a curious hollow hemmed in by rock walls formed by the ice age, about 10,000 years ago. We end our royal journey back in the Granite City!
