Two Day Isle of Skye Journey
We set off from Inverness following the shores of the legendary Loch Ness, stopping off at the impressive ruins of Urquhart Castle. Then we head for the hills and glens towards the Atlantic Ocean, where the romantic Eilean Donan Castle sits on the shores of Loch Duich. We explore this historic site for some time.

Then it’s over the sea to Skye where an island welcome awaits you. After a bite to eat on the isle, we meander along the quiet single-track roads to a special place called Elgol. It is a remote village on the west side of Skye, where huge mountains tower over the big seas. This is one of the best places to see the famous Cuillin Mountain Range. After exploring the area, we head for Portree, the island’s Capital. It is a charming harbour town with lots of individual shops, eateries and hotels. We stay here for a night and unwind by the cosy log fire with a whisky!

The next day we head north along Skye’s most interesting and changing landscape, known as Trotternish Peninsula. It is a geologist’s dream come true and the scenery here is breath-taking. We visit places such as Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, Quiraing, Museum of Island Life, and Uig. We learn about the strong Viking influence hundreds of years ago in this part of the island, where the place names are still Norse.

Then we carry along the winding roads to the north-west peninsula where the famous Dunvegan Castle sits on the shores of Loch Dunvegan. Here we can visit this famous clan Macleod of Macleod and learn about its long history. Also some lovely home-made food on site will keep us going! Next we drive through the heart of Skye, leave the island by bridge and head for Loch Carron, another scenic delight before winding our way back to the city of Inverness.
