Extra Special Journey (continued)

Day 3: Skye to Inverness
We leave the south of Skye and travel to Kyelakin to cross the infamous Skye bridge. We arrive in Kyle of Lochalsh and take the single-track road to the charming village of Plockton (made famous on TV by BBC’s Hamish Macbeth). Then we continue our journey to the romantic Eilean Donan Castle, perched on a tiny island in Loch Duich. We spend some time here learning about the clans and Vikings and can also try the hearty soup on offer in the restaurant.

We continue our journey through mountain passes and tranquil glens, until we reach Loch Ness and Urqhuart Castle. We can explore the impressive ruins of this historic castle whilst seeing lovely views of the Loch and Great Glen. Our base tonight is in the Highlands’ Capital, the City of Inverness. There are many opportunities in this vibrant city to experience the highland culture of music and dancing.

Day 4: Exploration Day Around Inverness-shire
After a wee-lie in, recovering from the previous night’s entertainment, we take it easy by re-tracing the steps of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Army at the Battlefield of Culloden. We can also visit the nearby Clava Cairns, which are fascinating ancient burial chambers from around 2000B.C. Then we’ll drive over the Black Isle to visit Beauly, a small village on the edge of the Moray Firth, where there are lots of lovely eating places and individual shops (tweed, tartan, cashmere & pottery).

After some lunch, we can visit our local whisky distillery, called Glen Ord. This is a Highland treasure not to be missed! The whisky tour takes about an hour with some tasting at the end. What a lovely way to round off the tour!
