ITS A TWO HORSE RACE - WELL A STALLION AND A DONKEY |

![]()
Into the final quarter of the season and it looks like there are only two teams who can now seriously consider themselves as championship material. Those two old rivals The Maudlers and Reapers will fight it out until the final Sunday - and it looks like it will go all the way.
Just four points separate the top two and then there is a jump of more than 50 points to third placed The Mainstreet Boys who despite their gallant efforts have not been able to show the consistency of the top two. Yes its simply a matter of grinding out those weekly points, unexpected assists, dodgy last minute goals, lucky transfers. It's a bit like playing the stock market, you've got to be able to survive the crashes by investing shrewdly in between them. Avery team will have its disaster week but the crucial winning ticket is how well it does week in and week out. If you look back through Stats you will see that on a weekly basis The Reapers and The Maudlers are consistently in the top three. Week 31 a prime example. That's were the points difference occurs.
Last year The Chopstix (surely Champions no more now) showed the consistency I have been talking about. This season they have blown hot and cold. Their transfers have proved complete failures - Sorensen in goal. They will probably finish more than 100 points behind the winners and yet they led the table for the first 10 weeks. I suppose last season was just a flash in the pan.
The Dutch teams have shown signs that in future years they could seriously challenge - we should perhaps exclude Frog Pajamas who have had four seasons and still produce crap teams. The Mainstreet Boys were almost there but have blown out on their final transfers - they have to understand that if you are 50 points behind you need to have different players from those in front of you otherwise you will just be scoring the same amount of points. Only those leading have the ability to poach others players.
Still here I am talking as though the season is over and the result a "fait a complit." The great thing about fantasy is that strange things happen and The Chopstix might still be able to call themselves Champions come 10th May. Oh come on give us a break!
