MAUDLERS WIN 2ND TITLE In what can only be described as a smash and grab raid reminiscent of the Great Train Robbery, Big Mac's set of conspiring thieves secured their 2nd league title in three years by a point from the heart-broken Reapers. Trailing by 3 points going into the final set of matches Maudler's midfielder Juninho scored the vital goal in the 79th minute whilst The Reapers Midfielder Carbone was substituted leaving them the point short. But Big Mac will not be too worried about the manner of victory - The Maudlers are a club where style is less important then results. Whilst no team may match the 95 goals scored by The Reapers many teams will go on to be as mediocre as The Maudlers. "Average in all departments but outstanding in none" will be the end of term report. Whilst The Reapers entertained all season The Maudlers simply played to win, play to bore. The Stats show that The Maudlers won with a consistent quantity of players available for weekly selection. In terms of average points per appearance they only finish in third place. Yes Big Mac has learned to master and manipulate figures but to the detriment of style and panache. The Reapers are stunned and inconsolable. Having dominated for much of the 2nd half of the season to lose out by a mere point is gut wrenching. They will be back, bigger, better and stronger. |

MAINTSTREET BOYS ARE TOP DUTCH In third place come The Mainstreet Boys who led home a notable selection of Dutch teams. The Dutch contingents have been an invaluable success to this season's league. In the end 5 teams finished above the watershed 1000 point mark and to their credit 2 of them were newcomers who challenged for the title right up until the final weeks. The WFFA hope they will be back next season more tactically aware and ready to take the coveted league to Holland. Winning Euro 2000 will be little concilation. |
