Aspidistra opaca
Accepted name Aspidistra opaca Tillich. Feddes Repert. 116(5-6): 321 (335, 337-338; figs. 2g, 3a). (2005). Synonyms Distribution Vietnam (Khanh Hoa) Description Rhizome: creeping, epigeous to nearly hypogeous, diameter 8 - 10 mm. Leaves: solitary [?] to ca. 50 cm; cataphylls brown, distally greenish, up to 5 cm long; petiole 10 - 18 cm; lamina lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 25 - 30 cm long x 5 - 9 cm wide, base cuneate, somewhat decurrent, uniformly green, mid-vein adaxially somewhat deepened, abaxially prominent, secondary veins 3 - 4 on either side, between them 7 - 9 very fine nerves.
Peduncle: flowers subsessile; flowers solitary but borne in some profusion.
Perianth [Perigone]: bowl-shaped; tube widely bowl-shaped, 10 mm long x 20 mm diameter, dull purple inside, dull-green with red mottling outside, lobes 6, reflexed, deltoid, abaxially dull purple, adaxially dull-green with red mottling.
Stamens: 6, positioned at base of tube, anthers subsessile, 2 - 2.5 mm long.
Pistil: table-shaped; style very short, ca. 2 mm long, stigma circular, disc-shaped, white, diameter 10 mm, surface smooth, with repeatedly bifurcated radial lines; ovary inconspicuous.
Fruit: undescribed.
Phenology: flowers December.
