Description Rhizome: creeping, subterete, diameter 8 - 10 mm, densely covered with scales.

Leaves: solitary, to ca. 70 cm; cataphylls undescribed; petiole 22 - 28 cm, rigid; leaf blade oblong- oblanceolate, 25 - 45 cm long x 5.5 - 8 cm wide, adaxial surface smooth, veins not sharply protruding.

Peduncle: ca. 5.5 cm; bracts 3 or 4, white, speckled with purple; flowers solitary.

Perianth [Perigone]: black-purple; tube ca. 8 mm long x 18 mm diameter; lobes 8 [not 6 as in FoC], horizontally spreading, ovate-lanceolate, 1.8 - 2.3 cm long x 8 - 10 mm wide, adaxially minutely papillose, 4-keeled, keels papillose, central two extending to tube and fused with those of other lobes. 

Stamens: 8, inserted at middle of perianth tube; filaments ca. 2 mm.

Pistil: mushroom-shaped; style columnar, 4 mm long, stigma 4-lobed, hemispherical, to 1.3 cm x 1.9 cm, surface smooth, white with large dark-violet areas; ovary inconspicuous.

Fruit: undescribed.

Phenology: flowers November.

Description Rhizome: creeping, epigeous, diameter 7 - 10 mm.

Leaves: solitary, to ca. 55 cm; cataphylls red-brown, up to 10 cm long; petiole 20 - 25 cm long, green; lamina ovate-lanceolate, 25 - 30 cm long x 7 - 9 cm wide, soft, uniformly green, base cuneate, somewhat decurrent, mid-vein sharply sunken adaxially, prominently raised abaxially, 4 - 5 secondary veins on either side, veins sharply protruding on adaxial surface.

Peduncle: 0.5 - 1.5 cm long; flowers solitary, upright.

Perianth [Perigone]: ± rotate, diameter 4.5 - 5.3 cm, purple; tube very shallow; lobes 8, lineatelanceolate, 17 - 19 mm long x 8 mm wide, margins revolute, with two prominent keels, fusing basally with a keel of an adjoining lobe.

Stamens: 8, positioned at middle of tube, filament 1.5 mm, anthers reniform.

Pistil: mushroom-shaped; style columnar, 4 mm long, stigma 4-lobed, hemispherical, diameter 14 mm, surface smooth, white or with few small red dots; ovary inconspicuous.

Fruit: undescribed.

Phenology: flowers December and, distinct from subsp. subrotata, again in April - June.
