| Description |
Pseudostem
2 - 3 m. tall, swollen at the base, non stoloniferous; bracts green; fruits 5 - 7 x 2.5 -
4 cm. obovoid to oblong, few seeded. Seeds ca. 1 cm. in diameter, round, black. (Hore
et al 1992).

Hore
et al 1992 created the combination Ensete agharkarii from Musa agharkarii
on the basis that the plant is a "non-stoloniferous, single
stemmed monocarpic herb with unusual robust girth which bears the chromosome number 2n =
18, [Chakravorti 1948] [which] suggests its appropriate
placement under the genus Ensete". However, seemingly unknown to Hore et
al, Rao & Hajra had in 1976 reduced Musa agharkarii to a synonym of Ensete
glaucum. Notwithstanding its currency the information in Hore et al presents no
convincing case for maintaining Ensete agharkarii as distinct from Ensete
glaucum. |
