Simmonds, Kew Bulletin 8 (3): 405 (1953) with correction in Kew Bulletin 8 (4): 574 (1953). Synonyms Musa enseteformis R. W. Berry, Amer. J. Sci., 10, 530 (1925). Authorities Manchester & Kress 1993. Section Distribution Description References Berry 1925, Jain 1960, Manchester & Kress 1993. Comments A "fossil" banana initially identified as Musa enseteformis (Berry 1925) from the Tertiary of Colombia re-classified as Ensete berryi by Jain. However, Manchester & Kress believe Berry's material to be recent, nonfossil remains of Ensete ventricosum, which is grown in the region of Colombia where the specimens of Musa enseteformis were originally obtained.
