Hedychium spicatum from the Dudh Kosi Valley images

This is a robust Edward Needham collection of Hedychium spicatum from the Dudh Kosi Valley, Nepal, home also to Hedychium densiflorum 'Stephen'.

When fully established in the garden this plant flowers at 1.5 m - 2 m tall. It is the best selection I have of plants that bear what seems to be the most common type of flower of Hedychium spicatum with a strongly reflexed labellum. Several other forms of Hedychium spicatum (e.g. CC 1705, CC 3249, PJ 218, Hannays clone) have similar flowers but Mr Needham’s collection is best in terms of plant height, flower size and number.
