Introduction

It would be an absurdly over-ambitious goal to obtain diagnostically useful photographs of all extant species of the Musaceae.  Still, there's no harm in trying.  If anyone can provide me with photographs of plants that can approach and ideally meet this exacting criteria then I should be very grateful to receive them in any form.  All contributions will be gratefully acknowledged.

What I would ideally like is:

  • View of whole plant with some sort of scale object included.
  • View of upper leaf surface showing venation.
  • View of lower leaf surface showing venation.
  • View of pseudostem.
  • View of inflorescence.
  • View of flowers in situ.
  • View of fruit in situ.

External images.

Some useful external sources of Musaceae images are as follows:

The Stokes Tropicals website has some good (but rather small) images of inflorescences of a wide range of Musa species.

The Shadow Wood Palmetum and Tropical Gardens website has some good images of inflorescences at http://www.raingardens.com/gallery/tropical%20frame%202.html but for viewing to be an agreeable experience you will need to turn your speakers off.
