In his discussion of Musa acuminata Colla (for which
he gives M. simiarum Rumph. as a synonym) Baker writes that, compared with
typical M. acuminata "Var. violacea, Kurz, has stems, leaves and flowers more or less
tinged with dark purple, and purple 3 - 5-angled fruits with a thick beak". In contrast, Cheesman writes that "Kurz [ ] used
the name "M. simiarum Rumph." to cover an assemblage of wild and
cultivated, seeded and seedless forms. He distinguished four varieties, a. sylvestris,
b. violacea, c. culta and d. corniculata, and to the first he
added as a synonym M. acuminata Colla....".
Cheesman includes Kurz's a. sylvestris and b. violacea
varieties of M. simiarum Rumph. as synonyms of M. acuminata Colla but
excludes c. culta and d. corniculata. |
