Musa mannii H. Wendland ex J. G. Baker

These are photographs of plants typical of those in cultivation under the name Musa mannii.  It should be noted that the identification may not be correct.  If anyone can shed any light on the identity of these plants please do let me know by E-mailing drc@globalnet.co.uk

Mmannii001 Musa mannii growing outdoors in summer bedding at RHS Wisley.  Note the dark red, ruffled wings at the base of the petiole.  These wings are supposedly characteristic of section Callimusa whereas Musa mannii is in section Rhodochlamys.  The yellowish leaf colour seems quite characteristic.
Mmannii002 Musa mannii growing in a greenhouse.  Adaxial leaf.  Note the red flushed midrib.  The yellowish leaf colour seems quite characteristic but may be accentuated here by inadequate nutrition.
Mmannii003 Musa mannii growing in a greenhouse.  Abaxial leaf.  Note the red flushed midrib.
Mmannii004 Musa mannii growing in a greenhouse.  Top of pseudostem showing the reddish, ruffled, scarious wings at the shoulder of the petiole.  These wings are supposedly characteristic of section Callimusa whereas Musa mannii is in section Rhodochlamys.  The lack of intensity of colour in the wings as compared to the RHS Wisley plants may reflect culture in a greenhouse rather than outdoors.
