One of the subspecies of Musa
paradisiaca referred to in the RHS Dictionary (2nd edition, 1956) and applied to forms
of the Fe'i bananas.
The Fe'i bananas are a highly distinctive group of bananas derived from members of the
Australimusa section with upright inflorescences and coloured (red or purple) plant
sap. Simmonds
& Stover caution that the Fe'i bananas are so poorly understood that the use of Latin
binomials is "unwise". |
