Stem,
petiole, flowers and midrib of leaf dull red. Fruit about 7 in. long, at first dark
red, ripening to yellowish red. Indian name Ram-Kela.

to Reynolds this is the Red banana (Baracoa, Red Spanish, Red Jamaica) which, following
Stover & Simmonds 1987, would put the palnt in the Musa (AAB group).
However, Stover & Simmonds list 'Ramkelat' as a member of the AAA group. The
author Firminger does not appear in Brummitt
& Powell or in the Harvard Authors Database. |
