Comments Rumphius listed two varieties of Musa silvestris, mindanauensis and amboinensis.   Cheesman comments that var. mindanauensis, taken up by Miquel as Musa mindanensis, was probably a form of Musa balbisiana and that var. amboinensis may well have been Musa textilis but that he "cannot pretend to be able to interpret Rumphius".

Champion 1967 queries spelling as M. sylvestris as given by Kurz p. 162.

Comments The author Lamarie is not included in Brummitt & Powell 1992Perhaps its Lemarie? as in Champion who spells it M. sylvestris.  Champion also say this is possibly section Physocaulis after Kervegant and if so maybe its not M. textilis?

According to Uphof, the local name for this plant "Layason" is distinct from name used for Musa textilis ("Abacá") but the plant also yields a locally used fibre.  The fact that the fibre is sufficiently different to call it by another name does not mean it comes from a different Musa species.  Musa textilis is anyway probably a cultigen acording to Mabberley 1997 and "Abacá" and "Layason" may just be different forms of it.

See discussion at Musa textilis.

Comments Champion & Hotta include Musa silvestris L. A. Colla (M. sylvestris in Hotta)   as a synonym of Musa textilis and cites Colla's original publication (Memorie dell' accademia reale delle scienze di Torino, Tomo XXV: 58 (1820)) which is usually cited in its reprinted (and repaginated) form as above.  Cheesman does not mention Colla's plant in his discussion of Musa textilis.

See discussion above and at Musa textilis.
