Comments Simmonds comments that "M. dasycarpa Kurz is probably M. velutina over which it has priority as a name".

In his unfinished work Kurz seems to imply that the two are the same. In his chronological review of Musa, Kurz mentions that in his 1867 paper he "briefly characterised M. dasycarpa then known only in fruit". Later, Kurz notes that "Wendland and Drude published in [ ] 1875, a supposed new species which they call M. velutina".

If the two are synonymous then M. dasycarpa Kurz does have priority over M. velutina Wendland & Drude published in 1875. However, since Kurz did not describe his plant properly before his untimely death Musa velutina remains the accepted name.
