The World Checklist of Monocotyledons gives Musa decrescens De Briey ex De Wild., Miss. de Briey Mayumbe: 178 (1920) as a synonym of Ensete ventricosum (Welw.) Cheesman, Kew Bull. 2: 101 (1947 publ. 1948) which is listed as an accepted name.

References De Wildeman 1920 : 178, 319, Index Kewensis, Rossel 1998 (Appendix D : 13).
Comments Published as Musa decescens the "x" is added to indicate its presumed hybridity.  In this context Musa x paradisiaca should not be read as implying that Musa x decrescens is Musa (AAB group) 'French' plantain, Cheesman's identification of Musa x paradisiaca L. (Cheesman 1948).  Gerda Rossel has identified it as Musa (AAB group) 'False Horn' plantain type.

It is not possible to reconcile the accepted names provided by Gerda Rossel (based on field experience in Africa) and the WCM.
