The World Checklist of Monocotyledons lists Musa flava Ridl., Trans. Linn. Soc. London, Bot. 3: 385 (1893) as a synonym of Musa acuminata subsp. malaccensis (Ridl.) N.W.Simmonds, Kew Bull. 11: 466 (1956 publ. 1957) which is given as an accepted name.

Description Nearly allied to M. malaccensis [Ridl.] but the broad, thick, blunt, bright yellow bracts give it a totally different appearance, the spike being quite blunt at the top.
