During a discussion on the identity of
Musa sp. "Yunnan", Markku
Häkkinen made available photographs of this banana from north-eastern Vietnam
where it is known as Chuoi Rung Hoa Soan. Although identified as Musa itinerans in an internal document of the Vietnam
Agricultural Sciences Institute it is clear from the male bud that this is a hitherto
unrecognised species. It has been given the VASI accession number VN1-054 but has
yet to be formally described and named. Images.
