CITRINE - Yellow Quartz (See Quartz) KEYWORD:
JOY Natural citrine (yellow quartz) is not common and occurs only sparingly in many large quartz deposits. As such it is greatly prized by crystal therapists and healers. Most
of the yellow and brownish-yellow quartz, which in the past was often sold under
the misnomer ‘topaz’, is heat- treated amethyst. Most material comes
from Minas Gerais, Brazil, but almost all of the Brazilian material is
heat-treated amethyst. Citrine can be found in the Ural Mountains of
Russia, in Dauphine, France, and in Madagascar. Citrine gets its name from the French word for lemon, “citron”: many citrines have a pale lemon colour. In ancient times, citrine was carried as a protection against snake venom and the evil thoughts of others. Although the darker orange colours of citrine, sometimes called Madeira citrine after the colour of the wine, have generally been the most valued, in modem times many people prefer the bright lemony shades. Occasionally
you will hear citrine referred to as ‘topaz’ quartz, which is inaccurate.
This name was used in the past in reference to the colour, which is sometimes
similar to the colour of topaz. Since topaz is a separate mineral, this
type of name can be confusing and should not be used. However,
‘natural’ citrine and golden topaz, are considered as alternative secondary
‘remedies’ to yellow sapphire in Vedic astrology. Since most citrine on the market started its life as amethyst, which was heated to turn its colour to gold, citrine jewellery, as well as amethyst jewellery, should be kept away from prolonged exposure to strong light, sunlight or excessive heat. With this precaution, citrine should keep its colour. The yellow quartz, called citrine, varies in colour from a pale golden yellow to a reddish-yellow and probably owes its colours to a trace of iron in the ferric state. Citrine is a lustrous gem of a stone, which holds the key to a balanced solar plexus chakra. A balanced solar plexus or power chakra, as it is sometimes known, is shown by the following characteristics: personal power; spontaneity; positive mental attitudes; joy; hope and freedom from emotional hang-ups and inhibitions; a keen thirst for knowledge, wisdom and spiritual understanding. So, if you choose to wear citrine, get ready for a life filled with wonder, delight, enthusiasm, expansion, originality, honesty, justice and self-confidence. People just feel great around citrine energy, of that there is no doubt; it banishes negativity and deep gloom. Yes, citrine certainly holds the answer to depression; it has a general ‘feel good’ factor. Citrine will also help you think through your difficulties and encourages you to explore all avenues, leaving no stone unturned until you find the best solution. It stimulates mental wisdom and is very penetrating; it will aid your total concentration. Citrine loves new ideas and looking at the world with fresh ‘eyes’, but it hates hesitation, procrastination and ignorance and can be impatient. Citrine aids communication, so if you sometimes feel ‘tongue tied’, wear a citrine pendant and you will find you eloquently have no shortage of words. On a higher level, citrine will aid intuition and telepathy, bringing spiritual wisdom. If your solar plexus chakra is blocked, under-active or distorted, you will be overly concerned with what others think, be fearful of being alone, insecure and need constant reassurance. If your solar plexus chakra is too open or spinning too fast, you will be angry, controlling, workaholic, judgemental and superior. Citrine is one of the best stones of our time for M.E. and relieving energy drain. It brings abundance on all levels and has been called the ‘merchant’s stone’, because carrying or wearing a citrine has a positive beneficial effect on cash flows, easing the burdens associated with too little money. Citrine
works first of all on the pancreas, then all the other organs associated with
the solar plexus chakra: liver, gall bladder, spleen and middle stomach.
We store anger in the liver and the solar plexus is where our emotional upsets
will register first. Citrine knows how to remove this stored pain; it also
knows how to rid the body of toxins and cellulite. It is the great
eliminator. It relieves constipation. Constipation is holding onto
the past. Citrine tones and cleanses the system, the mind and the emotions. So if you want to let go and lose some mental, emotional or physical weight, join the enlightened crystal weight-watchers and wear a citrine. As a gem essence it is used for menopausal flushes, menstrual difficulties and hormone problems, stomach ulcers, fatigue, allergies and diabetes.
