Crystal System:  Trigonal     Hardness:  3.5 - 4

Habit:  Includes the rhombohedrons and scalahedrons with rounded faces that can obscure the crystal shape; also botryoidal, globular, stalactitic, layered and granular

Colour:  Red to pink; raspberry-peachy-pink shades of colour, which is variegated and in bands of different shades of peachy-pink

Rhodochrosite received its name from the Greek for rose collared, but has been known also as ‘Rosinca’ or ‘Inca rose’.  In a massive form its pink and white bands are extremely attractive and are often used in semi-precious jewellery.  Rhodochrosite is often carved into figurines and tubular stalactitic forms are sliced into circles with concentric bands that are truly unique in the mineral kingdom.

Manganese spar is another name associated with rhodochrosite.  The material may be likened in its banding, but not colour, to malachite.  Occasionally very fine quality crystals are found that are transparent; these are usually cut into faceted stones and they have the strongest energy of the peach-rose-pink ray.  It is often used with malachite in crystal therapy, where it produces positive results not only in the right use of power, but in this combination it brings in the energy of compassion, so that a greater understanding of the energy of Divine will-power is fully manifested.

Rhodochrosite is not the gentle loving energy of the rose quartz pink ray but is the active energy of Divine love in action of the peach-pink ray.  It facilitates the energy of compassion, but not pity.  It does not encourage the sympathetic use of the pink ray, but rather the dynamic use of the peach-pink ray, whereby a greater understanding of the need to learn through the emotions is fully comprehended.  Mankind has a great capacity to learn through the emotions; this has been clearly demonstrated in the twentieth century, where the use of instant communication or global news has moved whole nations as a single soul to end war, famine or disease and brings in the energy whereby the aggressive and destructive behaviour of others can no longer be hidden or tolerated.  It is the energy of the enlightened reformer, as has been witnessed so many times this century when we have seen Live Aid, the release of Nelson Mandela, the end of the Vietnam war and the demise of the Iron Curtain.  Its message is: let’s change the world with enlightened love, as we can no longer tolerate the massive abuse of the solar plexus chakra by the few who manipulate, control and exploit the masses.  Rhodochrosite helps ease trauma and clears traumatic events from the heart, solar plexus and sacral chakras.  It clears old pains, hurts and memories and will purify the base chakra, sacral chakra, solar plexus chakra and heart chakra.  It will restore Divine balance to these areas.  Rhodochrosite balances the energies of the heart and reproduction system.  It is good for stomach, lungs, heart, reproductive areas, liver, kidneys and the intestines.
