These
issues have been raised as a result of discussion arising out of use
of the Heartstone stories
As the following comments show,
at the end of a project, the children take away a new understanding
of co-operation and tolerance. For some, it can mean less worry and
isolation and more self-esteem - a real opportunity to express their
personal fears and problems:
"Some homeless people are refugees whose homes have been destroyed in wars. Although they are homeless, they are just the same as us except that we have houses and they don't." (extract from a Heartstone Project at Clovenstone Primary School) "Heartstone means stop thinking about ourselves and help other people. It means when people are hurt don't turn away and put a wall in front of you." (Dawn) "It is a great comfort to me knowing that I have taken part in this battle to try and overcome ignorance which comes from people's attitudes...for once in my life I feel special." (Samantha) |
