Heartstone's touring
exhibition is titled 'Descendants of All Worlds' and it is from this exhibition
that photostories are taken to be adapted for group use in projects as
Heartstone Story Modules and Heartstone Portable Exhibitions. Sitakumari,
the Director of Heartstone is a dancer/storyteller who was initially trained
in the Indian Classical dance style of Bharatanatyam. She subsequently
went on to develop a contemporary style in which she now performs. She
plays a key role in these exhibitions which often have a live performing
component added to include speakers connected to the stories and dance.
The latter may just involve Sitakumari or frequently, she will rehearse
with and lead a company brought together for the duration of the exhibition
comprising dancers and young people from the local area. 'Descendants
of All Worlds' is constantly being updated with new stories as these are
gathered by the Heartstone photographer and his team on the assignments
they are sent on worldwide.
Heartstone exhibitions
may however be smaller-scale and include just one or two sections from
'Descendants of All Worlds'. Examples have included the Brussels European
Parliament, Victoria Hall in Bradford, Newcastle's Discovery Museum, the
Phoenix Arts Centre in Exeter and many others. Plans are underway for
similar exhibitions at Duxford RAF Museum and the London Aquarium.
Heartstone Educational
Conferences
Since the end of 2001,
Heartstone has staged several educational conferences when speakers from
schools who have been involved in the Dept. for Education & Skills
Heartstone Project connected to Citizenship have been invited to present
how they have used Heartstone stories to achieve the results already described.
To obtain the
CD which presents these case studies and will be available from September
2002, contact Heartstone HQ.
