OBJECTIVE ONE

To review current national initiatives to support mainstream schools in dealing with disaffected and disruptive pupils Establish a local database of literature and projects reviews accessible to LEA staff.

  • Literature search using MMU and University of Manchester
  • Review to be placed on website on the internet
  • Review to be published in booklet form


OBJECTIVE TWO

TASK OUTCOME + TIMESCALE PROPOSED WORK
To establish a network of key staff in participating secondary schools .

To plan and organise monthly network meeting of staff.
Sharing practice, advice on project development and dissemination of outcomes.

Opportunities for network members to participate in staff development activities related to work with disaffected and disruptive pupils

Three network meetings per term in the year 1997-98.

One meeting per term to include a staff development activity.
  • First meeting in each term to report on individual school’s progress.
  • Each school would be visited by a member of the co-ordinating team prior to the meetings to determine the progress of the project and the nature of what would be disseminated.
  • Second meeting in the first two terms would be based on input from a guest speaker and workshop activities determined by participating schools
  • In the summer term all three meetings to be presentations by schools of their projects
  • Each meeting would last for one afternoon.


OBJECTIVE THREE

TASK OUTCOME + TIMESCALE PROPOSED WORK
To identify and evaluate elements of effective practice already operating in Stockport Secondary Schools. Production and dissemination of a report through secondary school’s network

Autumn term 1997
  • Questionnaire to all secondary schools to identify current practice
  • Review of current practice using LEA Educational Psychologist and SEN adviser.
  • Follow up visit to all secondary schools and special schools in Stockport, where good practice has been identified.


OBJECTIVE FOUR

TASK OUTCOME + TIMESCALE PROPOSED WORK
To devise a range of options from which schools may select to undertake projects; and assist schools to identify personnel who may be contracted to take part in the delivery of school-based project/INSET activities. These may include staff from the Educational Psychology Service, ITSS, Project 11, Pendlebury Centre, EWS and the Youth Service as well as EBD schools. This will be a key objective in assisting schools to undertake effective project activities The provision of readily accessible advice and support to enable schools to establish quickly viable projects, activities which can be completed and evaluated in the 1997-98 academic year

Initial completion by the end of September 1997 with further support ongoing
  • A day conference for participating schools, to which representatives from Educational Psychology Service, ITSS, Project 11, Pendlebury Centre, Education Welfare Service and the Youth Service are invited. This would act as a stimulus for the creation of suitable projects
  • Draw on information gathered in Objective Three
  • Suitability of suggested projects discussed with project co-ordinators and school based Educational Psychologist and/or Project Co-ordinators to work with schools to identify suitable projects using that part of the database in Objective One which is already established


OBJECTIVE FIVE

TASK OUTCOME + TIMESCALE PROPOSED WORK
To evaluate and disseminate the outcomes of the GEST 1997-98 category 6 activity. A detailed written evaluation report for the LEA and DFEE.

Dissemination events to all secondary schools, EBD and support services to take place in the summer term of 1998 with completion by the end of the academic year
  • Independent evaluation, interviews, questionnaires, self evaluation
  • Parties involved will be staff in the schools, support agencies, parents, pupils and governors
