NORTH
EAST RESPONDS TO EDGES On
14th September four parishioners attended a second Diocesan
workshop where Bishop Ambrose Griffiths spoke on the theme of
Jubilee as Mission: "The Millennium Jubilee is a clarion call
from God to all of us. Pope John Paul II reminds us that Jesus was
sent to bring the Good News to the poor, to proclaim liberty to
captives and to the blind new sight, to set the downtrodden free,
to proclaim the Lord's year of favour." Then in small groups
we discussed such questions as: "who are the poor, the weak,
the excluded, the enslaved in our communities today? What would be
the Good News to the poor? What can we do to make our lives a
Jubilee?" What was evident from the discussions was the
variety of ways parishes wanted to respond to the challenge.
Our Lady of the Rosary, Peterlee, Co. Durham intend to
involve the whole of the parish in the Covenant which was signed
at each Mass on the feast of All Saints. One member of the group
will produce a monthly bulletin for parishioners asking for their
help and prayers on a weekly basis for each Project. We will also
keep the parish involved by displays on a noticeboard within the
church. At the heart of our Covenant is the liturgy and we will
celebrate the Eucharist and other prayers in such a way that the
needs of three groups we have identified are always with us. With
other parishes we will have twelve hours of exposition of the
Blessed Sacrament. |
