Nicky Re UNITED WITH THEIR FAMILIES

Nicky and Julie are friends of Edges Magazine: They were frequent visitors in one of our projects which provides Drop In facilities each day for people who are homeless. We are pleased to say they have now returned to Scotland to each of their families. Both these girls contributed articles of Edges in the past. They continue to keep in touch with our office and thank everyone for all their help.

PREJUDICED

She walked along in the pouring rain,
No umbrellas, coat, or scarf to warm her,
No friends to talk to.
Just one mistake her parents made,
They didn't want a child,
All they did was bully her,
And put her in a mental home,
They saw that she didn't need to be there. After all of those long hard working years,
Her parents were meant to take her home,
But she ended up in a doorway.
Her company was something to be enjoyed,
But still people walk by and assume;
Probably taking drugs, that's where they belong,
Probably into drink and things like that;
She has a harder life than any of the people that assume,
They don't think about that.
She hears all of the comments,
When darkness comes she dreams,
Dreams about all the ifs,
What if she had been sat there like royalty or dressed up,
Then what would they say?
If one person would just help her,
If people would give her a job...
Then daylight comes
Back to the cold,
Scraping together the bits of change that people throw to her in sympathy.
She had a face like a dirty candlestick,
Polish her up and she'll look like diamonds,
Clothes can be changed;
But what does that tell you about someone apart from how they dress,
Twenty years of her life wasted from no fault of her own,
Just think next time, out on your own,
A personality like gold,
A face as pretty as a rose in disguise,
Eyes like mouths, they just say everything,
But nothing, no food, no strength, no warmth.
