  BEACON OF LIGHT

I wrote this poem six years ago when my two younger sons were both using heroin. Shortly after I wrote it, my youngest son went into Rehab. It was the 17 May 1995,I remember it like it was yesterday, he was 22 years old. Now he's got his life back and the nightmare has passed. It took my other son 5 years more before he was ready to do something about his life.

Last year he went into De-tox for 3 weeks but decided to go for a further 3 months. The week's interval was the longest of my life. The 3 months is now 8 months and he has started a course at college. It's hard on all the family but I would say to other parents whose loved ones have gone down the terrible road of drug abuse 'don't lose faith, there is always a beacon of light'.

Beacon Of Light

When life seemed no longer worth living,
I was lost in a sea of despair,
A light shone out of the darkness
And a voice whispered soft in my ear,
Don't despair, carry on,life's worth living
A greater being is watching o'er you,
The sorrow, the pain and the anguish
Will subside and you will pull through.
With your love, your faith, they'll grow stronger,
The path that they take will be right,
All's not lost, turn to Him,in your hour of need,
For His love is a Beacon of Light.
