Homelessness Is Still An Issue For Me
  Mike

I’ve been coming to the T.H.O.M.A.S. Drop-in Centre for around five to six months now. I’ve been homeless three or four times. The longest time was for four months. At the moment I have a two bedroomed house but I’m finding it hard to cope paying bills and things like that. I’ll probably be homeless again soon because I can’t afford to pay my landlady.

The problem is money. The Social are taking thirty-five pound a week off me because of the loans I’ve had and I’m having to give my landlady thirty pounds a fortnight. That leaves me with around thirty-six pounds a fortnight for my food and smokes etc. I also drink a lot so I find it hard.

I’ve been in prison three times. First time was for driving while disqualified, second time was for ABH, GBH and criminal damage and the third time was the same as the second time. I didn’t really like it but it was my own fault for getting into trouble.

I would like to go to college but as I said my landlady has been on my back about not paying her so I need to get that sorted first.

I have been on heroin but I’ve managed to get off it. I got off it on my own by using sheer will power. I cut myself off from my friends who were taking it and just locked myself in my house for two or three weeks. I’m proud of myself for doing that.
