The Pain Of Humanity

The Community Based Support Team pay
tribute to Lee who recently lost his life.

Sometimes you only have to look at someone to feel their pain, see the sadness and hopelessness of someone’s life. You realize they’re calling but they’re not asking for help. They don’t know how. There’s no beginning, no questions, no answers, no point. But they want to be free from drugs.

Heroin is a dirty word! It’s a dirty drug! It takes away pain for a short while but pain always returns. It creates more problems, more sadness and more hopelessness. I know some of you have been there, done that, bought the Tshirt! Why? Because you’re reading this. Some of you will remember Lee Johnson. He was a quiet, somewhat shy person. He’d never want to bother anyone. Never make a fuss. He liked to keep himself to himself, but you always got the impression that he wanted people around and just like the rest of us he craved affection, love and understanding. He wanted answers to questions, he wanted help, but most of all as Lee would often say ‘I want to be free from drugs; this was Lee’s goal.

Lee was a client at Floating Support but had been know to T.H.O.M.A.S. for quite some time. He would call in on a regular basis and always say ‘hello fancy a brew?’ (and he made a great brew) then sit quietly in the kitchen not bothering anyone, never asking questions, never getting the answers. No point! You’d never hear him talk badly of others, because this wasn’t his way. Keeping himself to himself and dreaming of being free from drugs.

Lee had a dream of working with young people in care and because he had been in care he could empathise with that. He wanted to help others but struggled to help himself because he was in so much pain.

Lee was rushed to hospital on Tuesday the twelfth of September 2006 where he spent six days on a respirator after taking an over dose. Sadly he died one week later, due to organ failure.
