A New Life II - Entrance

Tenaka walked around the great wall that bounded the Labyrinth. There
appeared to be no entrance that he could see. At this rate he would use up
his thirteen hours simply trying to enter the place. There must be
something he was missing. But what? As far as he could tell, the wall just
went on and on and on. He did not believe that the Redguard would have
purposely set him too far from the entrance and he had walked for half a
league in both directions around the wall. Half an hour of his time was
gone and he had yet to enter the place.
Approaching the wall he started to reach towards it. The only thing he
could think of was that he must have missed a secret door. He would simply
feel the wall for cracks in the otherwise perfectly smooth exterior. But as
his hand touched the wall, there was a shimmering, and his hand seemingly
passed straight through the solid ebony. Quickly he pulled it out again. It
was unchanged. Trying a second time, his hand had the same effect on the
wall. He pushed a little harder and his arm also entered the wall – or what
appeared to be a wall. Closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, he walked
into the wall. He was right. He passed straight through it. As he looked
back after passing through, there appeared to be no wall. It was merely an
illusion.
"Hello," said a voice. Tenaka quickly drew his great Daedric blade and spun
on his heel. But there was nothing there.
"Hello," repeated the voice. Tenaka looked around again. Still nothing.
"Where are you?" he asked.
"Down here," called the voice. He looked down and saw where the voice was
coming from. At the foot of the wall was the head of a statue. And it was
from its mouth that the voice came.
"Hello," said Tenaka, lowering his blade. "You want something?"
"I just thought that I would congratulate you on getting this far. Only
half of the people who come to be tested get inside. The rest spend their
thirteen hours wandering around outside. Indeed, you have done it quicker
than most. Quicker than the current Dreadlord, in fact."
"Thank you."
"I am also permitted to answer one question. What is your question?"
Tenaka looked around him. There appeared to be two possible directions to
go in. "Which direction is safest?"
"Oh, if you want a safe way to go you should definitely go left."
"Thank you again. Farewell." Tenaka did not know why he trusted the statue,
but he felt that it was giving him the advise it believed best. He walked
off along the left-hand path.
"A good job he asked that," said the Head after Tenaka had left. "If he had
gone right he would have been heading straight to that city. That is most
definitely not safe!"
