A New Life V - Escape
Tenaka stood silently and looked over at the sleeping form of Kriella. It

did not seem fair that life should end just as it was starting to look
good. There must be a way out of this hole. He thought about how his life
had gone. He had not had a bad life. From farmer's son to famous Spellsword
whom stories where told of in all of the taverns from Daggerfall to
Sentinel. He thought back to his childhood. His mother had been a plump,
always caring woman. He remember especially her cooking. Always
interesting, but only occasionally edible, his father had sometimes had to
make something else. His father was a typical farmer who worked land close
to the Ebonheart family.
He continued to think about his father and suddenly remembered something

that he had often said. "Son," he would say. "The whole of life is a test.
All that you have to do is find the answer. But there always is an answer.
Where is the point of a problem with no solution. The gods do not like to
waste our time." Tenaka could testify that the gods did occasionally waste
his time, but the rest of it hopefully held true. Then a thought sprung to
his mind. He remembered how he had entered the Labyrinth in the first
place.
Thinking back he tried to remember what direction Geddon lay in. Finally

deciding on a direction he went to the wall heading that way. Silently
praying, he laid his hands upon the wall and pushed. Nothing happened.
Slowly, so as not to miss any part of it, he pressed against the entire
wall. Then something else occurred to him. Earlier he had fallen down one
hole. He had not moved, but then had to when he prepared to go up. The
holes had been in different places!
Again, trying to remember where exactly he had landed, he retraced his

steps in the oubliette. He decided on a place and then looked towards the
ceiling. Again casting the 'Levitation' spell, he rose to press softly on
the ceiling. Sure enough, his hand passed straight through the rock.
Growing excited he pressed harder and felt the same sensation as he had
when walking through the illusory wall earlier. He returned to ground
level. Walking over to Kriella, he knelt at her side and shook her awake.
"What is it?" she asked when she had cleared the sleep from her eyes.
"I have found a way out!" he replied.
"You have? Where?"
"You remember the wall that you had to pass through to enter the

Labyrinth?"
"Yes."
"The ceiling is the same in one place."
"Then let us go. What are we waiting for?"
"You to get dressed." Tenaka smiled as she looked down and realised that

she was not in a fit state to be seen by a Great Lord. She quickly solved
this minor inconvenience and walked over to Tenaka. Again, he picked her up
and flew over to where his hand had passed through the wall. Again, their
two bodies passed through the wall and when Kriella looked back, nothing of
the wall could be seen. The two of them kept rising until suddenly, they
emerged into daylight again.
"We have wasted much time," Tenaka said, looking at the sky. "We were down

there for seven or eight hours."
"We wasted no time," Kriella replied. "It was worth every second."
"You have only an hour at the most remaining."
"Then we had best move fast."
The two of them ran down the passageways. Tenaka was not worried about the

time – he had more of it than Kriella, but he did not want anything to
happen to her. He knew that something bad would likely happen if the limit
expired, and he did not want to see it. The two Dark Elves, Spellsword and
Assassin, hurried down the halls of the Labyrinth…
