Tenaka walked over to the Warmage as he heard the cry. Raising his fist to his heart, he saluted the true hero of the Guardian Citadel and Balefire nodded in acknowledgement. "Yes, my friend," said the Dreadlord. Balefire signalled to Tenaka and the two of them walked a little way from camp. Only Twilight saw them leave. She was still unsure in her trust of the Dreadlord, but she felt that Balefire knew what he was doing. "Tenaka," started the Warmage. "Have you a family?" "Only a wife," replied the Dreadlord. "The rest of my house is dead. What of it?" "Where were you brought up?" "A farm in the north of Morrowind. My parents were killed by a plague." "And did you then train to become a Spellsword?" "I did. Again, I ask, what of it?" "Did you, twenty-six years ago, contract Vampirism?" "I did. How do you know all of this?" "Bear with me a moment, my friend. I have a short story I would tell. Many years ago, there was a king in Morrowind called Warblaze Ebonheart. This king had two sons, born on the same day as twins. The king and all his people rejoiced, but shortly after, disaster struck. As is the Dark Elf tradition for royalty, the twins were named a week after their birth. One was named Balefire, the other Darkflame. "That night, there was an attempt on the lives of the royal twins. An assassin of the Dark Brotherhood broke into the castle and managed to make his way to the nursery. In the nursery were the two children and their nanny. The nanny gave her life defending the children, but before she died, she managed to alert the guards who killed the assassin. "However, with the death of the nanny came another problem. She was the only one who knew which of the children were the older, for, like most twins, they were identical. To avoid safeguard the royal line, Darkflame was sent from the castle with two trusted servants. He was taken and brought up on a farm in the north of Morrowind. "When he was eighteen, his parents were killed in a plague and he trained to become a Spellsword. Balefire knew of the existence of his brother and so chose a life of excitement and danger, knowing that should he die, there would still be an heir. That changed twenty-six years ago, when Balefire learned that his brother, Darkflame, had become a Vampire. Balefire mourned the death of his brother and gave up his life as a mercenary Warmage. A few years later, a third son was born to the Ebonheart monarch, another son, name of Shadowbane. Balefire again, safe in the knowledge that there was an heir, took up his mercenary ways." "How is this story relevant?" asked Tenaka. "You have probably guessed that Balefire Ebonheart is myself." "Yes." "Darkflame Ebonheart was given another name when he was placed on the farm, in order to protect him. He was named Tenaka Khan. Tenaka, you are my brother, Darkflame Ebonheart!" Tenaka looked at Balefire in shock, realisation only slowly seeping into his mind. Suddenly, the look of confusion left him and a smile adorned his face. Balefire smiled and took his brother in an embrace. An embrace many years in the waiting.
