Colour Gang
The Colour Gang is a group of artists operating out of the Noweyung Centre in Bairnsdale, Victoria. Noweyung provides a wide range of vocational and further education options for adults with an intellectual disability.
In 1989 local artist, Jill Noble, began working with a number of Clients who had expressed interest in the visual arts The first project was a successful mural on the walls of the Centre's art room. Following the completion of this work, seven of the artists expressed a strong interest in continuing their painting .
Since then they have continued working with Jill from time to time as well as with two other local artists and teachers through T.A.F.E. - Catherine Larkins and Jenny Toye.
The Colour Gang's work can be loosely categorised as "Art Brut" or "Outsider Art ". Their paintings are highly individual, pure and intuitive and unburdened by formal training.
