One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after;
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life  (Psalm 27:4)

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them ...
is like a [wise] man which built a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundations on a rock:
and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it:
for it was founded upon a rock
(Luke 6:47-48)

Let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
For other foundation can no man lay that is laid, which is Jesus Christ
(1 Corinthians 3:10b-11)

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? (Psalm 11:3)

Discipleship and Money Matters  (1999)

"As long as we live in the world, we have to deal with Mammon every day. And if we are not careful, as disciples of Jesus, we face the danger of imagining that we can love God and Mammon at the same time. Money can easily get a a hold of us and hinder us from being disciples of the Lord. So we cannot have a neutral attitude to money..."

Living By Faith

Christian Faith and God's Provision  (October 2013)

"In the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord Jesus tells us not to worry about what we shall eat or drink or wear. Yet today, very few folk put their trust or confidence in God to provide these basic necessities. Of course I am not suggesting we should not work in order to provide for our families, but if we are not satisfied to trust in God's ability to make sure we do not go without the food, shelter, and clothing we need..."

Some Extracts from the Book Rees Howells: Intercessor

"The day came when he reached his last pound. The Holy Spirit then told him, 'Cut the ropes and take the promises.'  It was a direct call to step out on God. But it is always easier to talk of such things than actually do them..."

Debt and Borrowing

The Excuse of Debt  (No Date)

"A man ought to work and support his family. That is correct in the Lord (1 Timothy 5:8). Some men may neglect their families because the must work extra hours to get the bills paid. They may wish that they could be free to enjoy their families, but they are bound in too much debt to afford the time..."

What Does the Bible Say About Going into Debt?  (No Date)

"Paul's charge to us in Romans 13:8 to owe nothing but love us a powerful reminder of God's distaste for all forms of debt that are not being paid in a timely manner (see also Psalm 37:21). At the same time, the Bible does not explicitly command against all forms of debt. The Bible warns against debt, and extols the virtue of not going into debt, but does not forbid debt..."

Lending to Others

What About Lending Money?  (1999)

"I remember, when I was working in the Navy, a believer in our local church approached me one day for a loan. I knew that God's Word said, 'Give to him who asks of you and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you' (Matt. 5:42). The man told me that he would return the loan the very next month. So I gave him what he wanted. But the next month he could not return the loan and asked for some more..."

The Money Charity

"Today The Money Charity is a national financial capability charity providing financial education, information and advice to young people & adults throughout the UK. Credit Action was established in 1994 by Keith Tondeur OBE. Initially he set up the organisation to help those in problem debt. Keith, and a group of volunteers, provided debt advice to people over the phone from a small office in Cambridge. Over time he realised that there was a major gap in that no-one was helping people prevent debt in the first place. So he began to move the charity into the more proactive space of financial education. the charity has a long history of helping people manage their money well. Past work has included targeted help for the those leaving prison, the homeless, working through faith groups, and providing mainstream information and advice face to face and in printed and digital form."

Financial Advice

Money  by Keith Tondeur  (2009, CWR, Surrey, UK)

"The Bible calls us as Christians to live radically different lives because of what Christ has done for us, yet the amount of debt we have and the amount of giving we do are not that different from everyone else. Through these practical and scriptural studies Keith Tondeur encourages and challenges us to find biblical answers to how we, as Christians, should respond to the materialistic world we live in, looking at: (1) Handling money God's way, (2) Good stewardship, (3) Materialism, (4) Giving, debt and saving."

Thinking About Money  by Keith and Sue Tondeur, and John Whiteley  (2008, Credit Action, London, UK)

"Handling  money well and planning your financial future are two of the most important skills that you need in life. Yet, a recent report revealed that around 29% of British adults find it hard to get independent, simple advice about money. Making good decisions about money is a challenge for anyone, whatever their income level. Here are some of the most common questions people ask: (1) How do we plan for different life events such as preparing for further education, setting up a home or starting a family? (2) How do we get out of and stay out of debt? (3) How do we write a budget and stick to it? (4) How do we handle credit wisely? (5) How do we save for the future?  The aim of this book[let] is to help you answer these questions by providing simple and clear information and pointing you in the right direction for further help. This should give you the confidence you need to understand the basics of handling money well."

Guide for School Leavers: Better Money Management Series  by Keith Tondeur & Philip Evans  (2003, Credit Action, Lincoln, UK)

"Whether you are leaving school to go to university or start your first job, handling money will be one of the hardest issues you face. This booklet is packed with helpful tips for managing money."

Handling Money God's Way  by Keith Tondeur  (2001, New Wine Media, Herts, UK)

"The way we handle our money demonstrates how deep our faith is. What should our attitude to money be? This booklet tackles some of the questions Christians frequently ask about money issues. [The author] trained as an accountant and spent 20 years in stockbroking. After becoming a Christian in 1980 he began debt counselling on a voluntary basis and this led him into Credit Action 10 years later. He has written widely on how Christians can handle money and possessions wisely and has spoken extensively about money issues..."

A Single Parent's Guide to Better Money Management  by Keith Tondeur & Tina Lambert  (2000, Credit Action, Cambridge, UK)

"For many single parents, looking after children alone is stressful enough, but a very large number will also be facing real pressures when it comes to handling money. This could be because they have been left with debts by a former partner or simply because they are struggling to cope week in and week out on benefit. Over the past two years this group now represents the largest number of calls on our debt helpline. This is why we are delighted to have worked with Gingerbread in producing this booklet which we believe will provide real hope to so many single parents who are currently struggling with their finances."

Biographies

Rees Howells Intercessor  by Norman Grubb  (1973, Lutterworth Press, London, UK)

"Rees Howells came from a poor family in a Welsh mining village and more than anything else learnt the secret of prevailing prayer. [The author] in this moving and very human book tells how Rees Howells faced the implications of full surrender, learnt to love the unlovely, found the key to prevailing prayer, became the channel of a revival in Africa, founded the Bible College of Wales, was taught the principles of divine healing and became a man who believed that prayer could alter the course of events in time of war..."
